Hi,
Just to let you know that the people have decided! :)
Everyone who registered has come up with suggestions about price, ranging from £70 to £520 so we're going somewhere in the middle to make everyone happy, I hope. Only 50 will be made, first come first serve as usual.
The X500 Plus will be priced at £259 (GBP) + packaging and postage. I am also asking a company to make us a plain, brown, double wall cardboard box for it. Just for delivery, nothing fancy.
----------------------------------------------------------
The case will be available in black or white with black or white USB keyboard
rubber feet
on/off switch
LEDs
all the screws
nuts
washers
spacers
custom made steel DVD and 3.5" USB card reader brackets
expansion card cover
keyboard holders
one 40mm silent fan
slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable
silicone fan mounts on the right side (in case you want to add extra fans)
3.5" USB card reader (52in1)
powder coated aluminium base and rear (inside and out) in black or white with a matt finish
custom made LED window
Fully assembled.
---------------------------------------------------------
Once I get all the payments I'll ask the factories to buy the materials and machine the plastic, the aluminium and the steel. They'll want to be paid in advance.
I'll be assembling the cases myself, one by one, it takes time so please be patient. :)
As you'll be the first ones to get an X500 Plus please let me know your choices:
1) X500 Plus colour ({b]white[/b] or black)
2) Colour combination of the LEDs (white, blue, red, green or amber, they are interchangeable)
3) Your full home address (for the delivery)
4) Your Paypal email address
5) Would you like two free ACube's "A" keys adhesives?
6) Please confirm keyboard layout preference (U.K. layout is second best option if first is not available)

Registered people should have received an email from me already. If you have not received it please contact me, I might have missed someone so sorry in advance about it...
Delivery: 2-4 weeks.
PS: This project has sucked a lot of energy, free time and money, my entire classic, NG Amiga and Commodore collection, plus my car (twice!) and a few other items which ended up on ebay during seven years. You probably already know but I'll be making these at a loss for a while but I love it and I hope you're going to love it too. Add sad music here. :)
Thank you to everyone who’s been supporting this project, you know who you are. ;)

I have only one question to ask. How much would this item cost plus shipping and handling to Canada?
Thanks in advance.

and what about South Korea ?

It weighs about 3kg with the box and bubble wrapped. Checking the postoffice.co.uk website gives me some ridiculous amount so I'll have to let you know.

Thank you! :)

Damn that's nice. too bad I already have a case for my AROS box.
-
Many thanks...appreciated. :)

Very nice. Does the White version come with white dvd drive and card reader?
-
Like a homebrew project is cool but for a comercial product is a bit expensive.

The white version looks nice with the black DVD and black card reader but I've had requests for a white DVD and white card reader.
White DVD bezels can be found.
White card reader bezel are harder. The ones I've found say they are white on the box, I bought 4 and they are all creamy colour...
I suppose they could be sprayed pure white but matching the colour of the case is going to be difficult...
Maybe a DIY project?

+1 for the project!
+1 for kickstart!

OK I have finished the CAD...again.
I've cut a few things and applied cheaper solutions to more expensive items; hopefully this will make it cheaper without changing its nature too much, it's all down to the quotes I get back in the end.
Revised the way to connect aluminium and plastic
Changed the standoffs for more affordable ones...not a fan but hey...
Removed clamp for power switch
Replaced power switch with a cheaper reset switch ( it does the same thing) but it costs £3
Removed the sleeve/braiding from the power switch
Removed the sleeving/braiding from the keyboard
Reduced the amount of punching required in the aluminium
I'll email the CAD files and wait for a quote.
Thanks! :)

Is this to reduce your cost, or is it to reduce retail price? Because I thought the price was arbitrarily chosen:
Everyone who registered has come up with suggestions about price, ranging from £70 to £520 so we're going somewhere in the middle to make everyone happy
-
Yep. If I had had to price it according to development costs it would be stellar, at least according to some. That's why I asked registered users, but it looks like that not even that satisfies some so back to the drawing board.
My cost?
You don't want to know my cost LOL! :D
I'm trying to come up with a better price for the user, it might be hacked down a bit but still the same project...more or less. It shouldn't affect its appearance too much...
-
Removed two side mounts (with screws on the back) where the sides join the rear end of the plastic
Reduced fixing screws cover to base from 8 to 6
Replaced spacers with small nuts for the HDD/SSD
Replaced the keyboard holders with smaller ones.
Plus all of the above in previous post and should be quite a reduction.
If I take anything else out we're going to be left with nothing... :)
