Trying to find this game
« on: March 09, 2006, 03:09:38 AM »
Hey all:

Been searching for Nebulus for the Amiga and of course all the sites that would have been a good place (like back2roots) are seemingly off-line.

I believe that Nebulus is abandonware, and while I don't want anyone to think that we would be engaging in Piracy, I make this offer.  If someone has the original game and would like to sell it, I would buy it provided it is not very expensive... say $10 USD or less.  If you would be interested in selling the game to me, please pmail me.  If you are willing to e-mail an ADF I would welcome that.  Again Pmail me on this.

OR -- If someone knows where you can legitimately purchase the game, I am all for that as well.  *Don't suggest eBay, would end up paying WAY to much.

Thanks,

I've seen auctions on eBay for a DVD with 4,000+ Amiga games on for 40 USD.

As a last resort this might be worth keeping an eye out for abandonware.

By the way, what is Nebulus... something like Arkanoid?

It is an old amiga game produced in 1988 by Hewson.  You can see a little about it by googling Amiga Nebulus.

Hope that helps!

I wonder how many companies have lost their original code/designs...

I bet Sega lost the Sonic the Hedgehog source from the Megadrive days. The GameBoy Advance versions just didn't look or move the same.

And then there's Commodore losing the blueprints for the AGA chip set!

I would just google for it.  I'm not advocating piracy but for a system as old and abandoned as the classic Amiga thats probably about the only place you can find old software.  I have it btw.

Too bad then, I would like to have seen a real (OCS/ECS) Amiga-port of that game, and not only a demo :/

That ECS demo of Sonic The Hedgehog is a bit like comparing Fears to Quake 3...

:-D

I suppose you could try AmiGenerator for PPC or Kid Chaos AGA. The latter might offer more thrills, not sure how well developed AmiGenerator is at the moment.

AmiMasterGear with Sonic 1 though is definately very cool on A1200 '030.

EDIT:
Did you get hold of Nebulus then? I'd like to track it down too!

Ofourse I know Kid Chaos, a game wich comes very close to the original Sonic indeed, and somehow manages to be slightly different :) but it shows that Sonic could be done on an Amiga. (but the hardware differences between an Megadrive and Amiga aren't that big, aside from the sound)

I don't have a PPC, only an A1200 '030 (and a A2000 '030). But my PC is not that bad, and it's quite suitable for Megadrive emulation. But it's not the same as a real amiga port. But maybe in the future, since every other platform DID get a version of Sonic....

Did the PC version on Sonic CD run on Win '95? I'm wondering if it would be possible to load it on PCX or PCTask (providing Pentium emulation is there).

It'd be interesting if the Mediator's PCI expansions could be utilised by the PC emulators on Amiga too.

On another note, what's the fuss about Moonstone? What's it about?

:-)

I would like to know as well, since that is one of those seemingly "classic" amiga games I've missed. Hell I'm going to try and start it in Winuae again :p (my last attempts a few years ago failed) :-)

EDIT:
In one look at the game I can tell you it's jerky, uses NTSC (the adf I used anyway), graphics are okay, sound is okay, supports a 2nd disk drive, supports up to 4 players, is some sort of a strategic RPG with hack&slash (a lá Barbarian) action scenes.
And I guess the last thing is the source of all fuss, because it contains blood&gore, like chopping heads with results in a fountain of blood sprewing out of the neck. Oh and the blood splatters over the ground, and doesn't vanish, unlike in most games  :-D
