Blizzard PPC 64 MB limit?
« on: January 02, 2008, 03:25:40 PM »
I was just trying to catch up on all the good news, went back over my Blizzard specs and see it max-s out at 64MB. Can this be over come some how?

Does it make any sense to shop for more RAM? OS4 Classic recommends more than 64MB. What are you experiences?

Thanks for ideas

I recommend at least 128mb

When I've booted OS4 on my A4000T I'm left with ~85-90mb RAM

PPC code need more memory

64MB? seems a bit low doesn't it. I've got 64MB on my 030 miggy.
If you use a PCI solution such as Mediator then the RAM from your GFX card and sound card should help to some extent.
Don't forget your PCMCIA slot could be used for RAM too.
Other then that I have no idea, I'm not lucky enough to own a PPC board for my A1200.
I hope someone else can help more, good luck.

According to the big book of Amiga Hardware the max is 256MB for the Phase5 version. The card has two slots. For a max limit of 64MB it means max 32mb per slot. I dunno if this is the slot limit. Someone more hardware savy than me has to answer that.

But from what I can recall when I had ppc for my a4000 I think 128MB was max (32 per slot x 4 slots). Which is according to bppc 2x32mb... But then again big book amiga hardware.. :) Coul be that we're wrong? Hope so.

edit: Big book of amiga hardware says max ram for cybppc is 128, which is good news in a way for you? ;)

there's no 64 mb limit for the blizzard PPC. you can have upto 256mb (128mb on each slot). this is maybe the only point where BPPC is superior to CyberstormPPC (which maxes out at 128mb).
I believe in mt. Fuji

@countzero:

BPPC however has 32-bit memory addressing vs the 64-bit memory addressing on the CSPPC. :-)

Yeah, I was a bit shocked to see only 80-90 MB after booting OS4. Sometimes I have about 30 MB mem left when working. I can understand why there is a swap partition for the future now  :-)

Although to break the limit we would need some really cool OS4 programs or better compatibility with older apps, but Im not complaining.

Effy (here in the forum) sell those 128Mb SIMMs in a regular basis. Ask him!
