Title: AA600 + Vampire + Phoenix-CPU = Has this boys the fastest AMIGA?
Post by: biggun on May 12, 2014, 09:41:46 AM
This boy has an AMIGA with Vampire with new 68K CPU core.

The Amiga texture mapper demo uses 320x256 screen with 64 colors (EHB)

Link to demo (Amiga executable)

Run the Amiga demo on your machine for FPS comparison.

This CPU core will come out as free upgrade for Vampire owners.

The CPU will also be available as upgrade to other AMIGA models later this year.

People interested in writing more AMIGA demos with this CPU can meet us here:

Vampire 600 and the Apollo Core,
This is the most exciting Amiga project in years - and I dont even have an A600.

Heres hoping that the availability for other Amiga models later in the year will actually happen , and that it will be available for the A1200!

Nick

Any chance of the sysinfo on this one?
how does it compare to actual 060's ?

@polyp2000
The Apollo core is going to be bigger and faster than the Phoenix core.  I'm not sure if the little Phoenix core is even equivalent to a 68060.  Maybe more like an '040.  (I don't know the scoop completely, I'm just basing my statements on some information from MattHey on another forum.)

I can't wait to get my little A600 with the Vampire setup again, this is really great :)

WOW!
Very impressive!
I just tried the demo on my A1200 030 50MHz and only got 5.3fps.
That means....calculating....the Vampire accelerator is 5.6 times faster then my Blizzard IV.
I would like to see ADoom running in EHB mode on that A600, can anyone try it?

BTW: The demo is corrupting my HD and crashes on exit, after reboot it runs Validation, so be careful, maybe reboot or turn off Amiga to quit.

Yeah great news, too bad the vampire boards are not manufactured by anyone atm and the few that were made were given out to a handful of people.

I thought kipper2k was making them...

Good to hear, my ACA is flakey, causes random system crashes and so on. Connections cleaned, screwes tightened, etc. No luck. Maybe my recent recap will help? Will find out soon, if not, I'm going to end up ordering one of these and selling the ACA.

EDIT: Who's child slaves are those? I want some child slaves!!!

Interesting specs.  I was impressed by how this core outperforms PPC.  I'd like to see how it performs against an X1000

Wont be the ACA your 1200 needs timing fixes done and then it'll be 100% rock solid. Whoever is doing the recap should apply any timing fixes at the same time :-)

And that is just the beginning. There are bigger and faster FPGAs available :)

Did we miss something, the Phoenix demo is 68k and not PPC.

And we have only seen 1 programm so far, which could be optimized for the core, so not giving a good comparision. Better would be running some more test like lha decompress, Adpro operators etc.

No.  "We" didn't miss anything, but obviously "You" did.

My earlier post had nothing to do with the demo.  I was referring to the benchmarks of the Apollo core and how it fared against PPC.  The core is actually substantially faster than PPC.

Yep from what I've read the core is not finished yet (lacking compatibility).

Still it's very impressive to see such progress, hopefully this will give the core developers enough of an incentive to create a really special 68k core for us retro nuts.

Maybe one day somebody will use this core in a larger FPGA and make it available for all Amiga models :)

Yes I thought he was going to make them too but it looks like it stalled but i've been out of the loop for a month.
