Exchange server not available (wireless)
« on: August 04, 2006, 10:29:04 PM »
I have a Windows 2003 server, also running Exchange 2003. I use a Linksys wireless router for LAN and internet access. Starting Outlook 2003 and getting to my mailbox works OK via a wire. Once connected wireless (local) I have a connection, I can reach the internet but upon opening Outlook I get: Exchange server not available.
What's wrong here? Do I need to open ports on the router? I now only have port 80 open for OWA (Outlook Web Access. This works OK.

Do you have any additional security on the wireless side? Also, is the wireless network on the same IP range as the wired network?

I have WPA enabled. Wireless connection to the router and the internet is OK. IP-adresses are:
Router/default gateway: 192.168.1.1
Exchange server: 192.168.1.2
Clients: range 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.110

I'm a little foggy on it atm, but I think that has to do with Encryption, or the level of encryption by default that the Exchange server supports, and the encryption that your Wireless protocol uses.

What are you using for Wireless? B? G? Pre-N?

Try switching from G to B and see if that works.

I think encryption is OK as I have a connection and I can connect to the internet. So I don't see the point in switching from G to B. The problem must be  a routing issue or maybe a firewall issue.
On the client Norton Personal Firewall is running. But why only when connected wireless?

Ms exchange is a very compound tool and unfortunately I personally tested all possible troubles. Only couple days ago I could manage with all these troubles and in this matter next tool participiated. This tool showed me such resources as: restoring edb does not modify processed email databases and etc. Besides it would be very useful for any kind of complicated situation connected with ms exchange server - reparar edb.

Ports 110 (POP3 unencrypted) & 143 (IMAP unencrypted) open? OL is possibly using the SSL ports (995 & 993) or using IMAP while you're trying to connect to POP3.

Not quite sure what the problem is here but I am sure OWA uses port 443 as it is https.
