Any demand for 060 boards for A1200's?

I have read that genuine 66MHz rated 68060s can be overclocked to 75MHz provided you install some serious cooling.

However, I dont think the 14% increase from 66MHz to 75MHz is worth the risk of killing what is a difficult (and expensive) to replace part.

Another point to note about 68EC060s - most software that is written to take advantage of the 68060 tends to assume that its a full 060.

I have heard of lots of 060 apps failing to work on EC060 thus forcing the use of 020/030 code. Naturally it runs very quickly, but 68060 optimised code on an 060 can be considerably quicker than 020/030 code on an 060 due to pipeline optimisations etc.

Given the choice, I'd go for a full 68060 @ 66MHz than a 68EC060 @ 75MHz any day...

I've tried to overclock my 66mhz B1260, but even
with good cooling the chip will wig out and
cause gurus at anything above 66mhz (I've tried
70, 72 and 74mhz with no luck). The proc is
a 60mhz unit, which most manufacturers clock to
66mhz (the 66mhz chips from Motorola are all
FPU-less).

The best for overclocking are actually the
latest mask revision of the 50mhz chips...one
of those clocked at 72mhz with a decent cooler
would probably be the best/most reliable 060
setup.

The 66mhz Apollo boards are either overclocked
50 or 60mhz full 060's, so for the right price
they're really not that bad...I'd probably
buy one if it had one of the "later" 50mhz
procs on it.

68060's with the 'E41J' mask revision can
handle up to 100mhz! I don't think there are
any amiga cards which use this chip, most of
them (like mine) have the old '1F43G' mask, or
the slightly less-old 'G65V' mask (they are those
chips whose part numbers end in "A", and can
handle up to about 80mhz).

It may make an interesting project to source one
of these chips and try it out at perhaps 90mhz
or so...

I wish cards like that (with 060 @ 100MHz's) were produced for Amiga - if I got right this is a turbo for Atari Falcon, right?

I will make this short:

There would be more chance of me crapping in the Queens handbag than you getting a free 060 board. Sorry, but that is the way it goes, many people will be reluctant into giving away their prized, rare boards away for free. Maybe at a cheaper price though.

As for the brands, get either Blizzards or Magnums. I owned a Blizzard 1260, and was ever present in my machine, until i got a PPC, and was very reliable. I have not tried Magnums, but have heard nothing but good stuff said about them, so they must be good.

DONT GET APOLLOS! They are cheap and nasty!  :-)

From what I understand magnums are just slightly reworked apollo cards... looking at my magnum 030 and apollo 030 I see they are identical, same goes for the 040 cards I once had.

Personally I think apollo's are the cheaper card but thats not to say they are bad... just lower specced, they dnt have DMA scsi and the memory bus can only take a maximum of 2x32mb simms. Id go for an apollo 060/66 if i had the chas, I used to have one in one of my A1200's until I had to sell it :-(
