Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Found this on a Rev 6 A2000HD motherboard I was given as a spare when I recently bought an A2000.  The original battery had been replaced with a phone battery which had then leaked again  :-o  :-(

This mobo looks like it went to Mars and back.

Someone should put a working Amiga on Mars.  What a publicity stunt!  I think NASA would think it's too heavy though..

Updated: I put the battery back inside the 2000, but in a little plastic bag.

The only way the battery hurts the board is if it explode (not impossible, but seeming very hard to happen)!

You can use phone batteries, just solder it away the MB. In my still dead 2000 (Agnus issues) I dessolder the orig. batt (no leaks in 19 years!) and put a phone batt bolted outside the case.

Rechargeable phone batteries are not bad.  They should last years, but you've GOT to open up your Amiga every couple of years and check the state of things.  I have a phone battery in my A2000....but I ran a wire a few inches so I can move it to another part of the Amiga not directly in contact with the motherboard!

Yeah, the previous owner didn't check it after replacing it with a 4.5v phone battery.  AND, it was left with the acid sitting on it for a good while before I got it and cleaned it up.  If I can get it working, I'll use the lithium hack on it  :-(

Nah, replacing with same type is not bad. Not checking on the state of your battery once in a while IS bad however :-).
