MinTerm Posts:3 | May 24, 2012, 07:23:49 PM Most rechargeable batteries leak an alkaline electrolyte (only lead-acid car/motorcycle/UPS batteries use sulfuric acid electrolyte). I found that using some cotton swaps dipped in a VERY WEAK acid like white vinegar helped neutralise the leakage, then I patted it dry with a paper towel and then used cotton swabs dipped in distilled water and dry paper towels to remove the white vinegar. I see you have components damaged that are far away from where the on-board nicad was, that's probably from outgassing when the battery leaked. One tends to see that on equipment that is powered up when the battery starts leaking. If you can't find Conformal Coating (the green laquer type coating) to paint over the exposed traces (after checking to make sure the traces are still working with a multimeter), you can use clear nail polish. |
