Also Moto Droid 2 (Verizon) here. It's a really great phone. I don't have a single gripe with it. As stated, battery life can occasionally be a little sketchy, but, honestly, it's as good or better than any phone in it's class. Powerful phones drain batteries quickly when cranked up. And if it's really a concern, you can just pick up another one and swap them unlike certain fruit-branded devices.
I haven't messed with UAE4Droid much, but the little I did, it seemed to perform quite well. Granted, I didn't really tax it, but it'll play the couple strategy games I threw at it.
(Just make sure you use the 512k 1.3 kick image [easily available], instead of the legit 256k one.
