When I disabled my windows pagefile the whole system got very buggy and slow. I was no where close to running out of memory. I have 1 GB and never used more than half of it during my test. I was forced to turn swapping back on. XP sux.
I never use a swap file (well its disabled) and have never had problems, except for the odd game that requires that you use one! XP with 4GB
