Amiga Unix (unlimited licence)
Commodore Amiga Unix SystemV Release 4
Comes on 5.25" tape data cartdridge with floppy disks.
All manuals, complete. Never used (and never tried)
same person also has tape drive to use this with.
Commodore CBM A3070 5.25" external SCSI tape drive / cartridge player and recorder. 150mb external tape streamer
Sold as an accessory for Commodore Amiga 3000, it is (as far as I understand) standard SCSI so should work with most computers with a SCSI interface (Commodores, Macs, high end PCs, servers, unix machines, etc)

Much better, much more compatible software for it, and free in both popular meanings of the word.

because it runs slow as sin and wasnt designed for an amiga... futhermore if you want to run debian you can run it on a PC... thus defeating the whole point...

What, Debian?
The whole point of Amiga UNIX is that it is just Amiga UNIX!
It's kind of like buying a NeXTStation for running m68k-Linux. Sure, it works good and it's more up to date. But the coolness factor of this is close to zero when you consider the original OS :-)

I would think that it'd be rather easy to get the GNU utilities working if one had GCC compiled. There might already be one, if I understand correctly, Commodore's UNIX was just a straight port of SVR4 (with only the GUI having real hardware customizations).
Of course, I might be totaly wrong, but that'll happen... :-D
Anyhow, all these new applications for X would run dog slooooow: anything based off QT or GTK.

Commodores Amiga Unix SVR4 comes with X windows, and Motif, or can simply be run from the command line, and runs quite nicely. The nice thing about it is not simply
the OS, Which is real UNIX,but customizatons for the Amiga, which include more than the GUI. One thing to consider when purchasing this, is that it when it was released , BYTE magazine said it was the easiest installation of Unix ever released. I must agree, I've had this product since it was released and I've used Linux distros such as RedHat. Without knowing very much about UNIX at the time, I answered a few questions and it was installed within 15 minutes. I wish I could say the same about the other OSes.

I answered a few questions and it was installed within 15 minutes. I wish I could say the same about the other OSes.
I remeber installing SCO UNIX on an old P100 about 1995/96, and that was the same, I knew nothing about UNIX at all in those days, and it was simple to install, it even found my NCR PCI SCSI card, and the HD and CDRW automatically.
Anyone got ADF's or DMS images of Amiga UNIX?

I got a copy of this when I bought my 3000T second hand years ago. Has the tapes (with lots of spare tapes included :) ), manuals etc. I just don't have the tape drive to go with it.
Always wanted to install it just to see what it was like, oh and get the tape drive so I could use the spare tapes to back my Amigas HD onto.
I remember reading that the A3070 tape drive was just a re-badged something else, anyone know what of ?

Well heck here is my 2 cents worth, I was an HP Unix guy at Motorola many years ago and when I had a 3000 I picked up the Amiga release and tape drive new for a mere $50 USD and was really impressed with the documentation and quality of provided software and found a few good utilities via Aminet. Now, having said that, even at the time of release the X-windows graphical portion of the release was a bit dated but if you used it as a command line oriented server and Unix workhorse it really could be usefull as a business system and fairly secure local server.
(IMHO) If you all ready are comfortable with Unix (S5 R4) you could find some real value in what is included otherwise it is merely a curiosity. Then again that manuals and even setup experience have real value as a teaching tool. Well that is my recollection anyhow I have to admit my Novell Netware and HP UX knowledge are both pretty dated and atrophied now.
