Sending an A3000D to Europe
« on: April 13, 2009, 11:47:49 PM »
LitchKing has asked to buy my A3000, I'm in the USA and he's in Austria.

Since I've never sent equipment to Europe, I just want to be certain.

I think I've seen a NTSC/PAL jumper when I've had the computer open. 3000's have those, or is that the 4000, I'm not certain.

The PSU has a switch to change to European standard, right?

There is no external switch on the Psu on mine that I can see...

He may have to get a transformer or change the psu...

PS would have to be converted to European 220.  For someone with electronics knowledge this should not be hard.
Or they can buy a p/s locally and put it into your cassis.
Be sure to ship via DHL/UPS with insurance and good packaging.
USPS, I don't think you get high insurance and tracking #.

terminator4 has a very good point, USPS might say that they can insure an overseas package for a given amount, and then it turns out that only 3/4 of the value is actually covered...if you're lucky... Best bet is to really research insurance, liabilities, etc. Before sending...
In my case, I was sending an auction item to France. The sale price was about $950.00. I asked for insurance at the post office for that amount, the clerk said, 'doesn't matter, they will only cover $650.00 ?!!?
UPS may be the way to go.... And, as always, YMMV...

Hi, I'm the guy who is interested in the A3000D :-)

Yes I know that the US PSU need 110 V, maybe I will a) buy a Voltage converter b) get a european PSU c) or modify a ATX PSU

Maybe I'm a bit crazy because I don't change my mind. :D
But in the German Amiga Communities it is hard to find an A3000 for sale and when you see the prices you think that the earth is included  :-o

But it isn't necessary to hurry up with the deal, I have enough time.
