The way I look at it, it took Sony ten years to develop the PS1, and the PS2 was several years in the making beyond the PS1. I felt it was foolhearty at best to even expect what is essentially a complete rewrite of an OS to be done before many would lose patience and start in about how long it's taking. The sooner it's finished, the more likely it'll fail to live up to its billing. Badgering Hyperion into releasing it before its ready can only have a negative impact on what you'll end up with at your desk.

I've got a PC. I have it because it's the computer I need, not the computer I want. Like most, I'll buy the one I want as soon as it's available.
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.

Nicely said, Helgis. It's good to see you're not a
"fundamentalist - amigan" after all. ;) Have you
considered possibly upgrading an older machine for
hobby? I'm still theoretically considering a 4000
project...

Hello Darth_X,

At the moment, don't have enough for AF 5.1, but, I think I'm going to go for it soon. Full verion CD.

Hello MarkTime,

Many have suggested wy2k, but I already feel burned with w98se, I don't want to go buy another ms piece of junk. I'll just buy an extra piece of Amiga SW.

Hello JetRacer,

I have a 400 Meg ram disk going, and tried to put the virtual ram (you mean swap file, right) there, it wasn't selectable as an option. I ran the computer both ways, with and without the swap file going, same problem occurred.

AmigaOne! These problems will soon be gone, from grief to relief!

So I guess that A500, 600, 1000, 2000, CDTV, CD32, are pure garbage then? Thanks for posting here.

Sadly, atheist, I feel that windows 98 is the best home Windows version available for PC, unless you have a computer fast enough to handle windows Xp (technically even a 486 can run it, but you need over a Ghz and plenty of RAM or it will be very slow) . I've never had that bad of an experience with NT 4, but I've never used that at home... which is where the heavy use gets going.

If you want to use windows then i recommend Windows 2000 pro as that is the only version M$ did a good job with and it runs rock stable here.

I agree with Paul on this one. W2K is bulletproof. I've been using it for over a year now and have never seen a blue screen once, not to mention that I've only had a forced OS scandisk twice and that was 'cos I  was setting up my Linux partition.

Wait for the A1 and AOS4 or get at Peggie and MOS. I support what these guy's are doing, but I never got my money back that I 'invested' in the boxer, even though it wasn't alot. Pardon me for being skeptical, but we're Amigans. It hasn't been safe waters since the early 90's.  :-D

If you want a PC, put Linux on it and have a dual-boot
with Window98. I only use the Windows side for some
games and to run my Canon scanner. All the work I cannot
do on the Amiga, I do in Linux, and it's no problem at all.  I
spend perhaps 1% of my computer time in Windows, and
then it's mostly five minute runs to get things done before
exporting to Linux/Amiga for the actual work.

At any rate, the AOne-XE will be an improvement over the
400MHz box I have currently. I have no problum playing
around with Debian for a while if it should come to that.

You sure seem to be a rollercoaster kind of a guy. I don't
know how many times we told you (during your "happy
rally" of excited postings some time back) that you
shouldn't go taking the predictions - not to mention rumors
- of quick delivery as iron-clad facts to get all worked up
over, over and over again. Deliveries slip, that's
a fact of life. As I recall, you also bought a whole lot of
hardware prematurely - no wonder you start getting
desperate.
