Best icon replacement for a low end Amiga
« on: November 24, 2013, 10:16:06 PM »
I was just making a hard drive image for my Minimig Core on the Chameleon 64.

I put a fresh install of WB 3.1 and the newest distro of BetterWB on it.  I wanted to put a replacment Icon package on the image.  I was thinking either MUI or NewIcons.  However, the MUI 3.8a on aminet seems to be only an update.  Where can you get a full distribution?

Also are there any better icon replacments, what are peoples opinions?

Taste is personal, so there is no 'best' IMO. That said, MagicWB of course =).

Oh yeah!  I forgot about MagicWB.  I think last time I used that was almost 20 years ago.

MUI isn't a replacement icon set, however you still need it to run a lot of programs so go ahead and put that on there, along with MagicWB . The only other choices beyond that (NewIcons, GlowIcons, Ken's Icons, etc.) require a more souped up system.

Also don't forget Peter K.'s icon.library! ;)

You guys are bringing this all back to my memory.
I had an A500, a GVP A500HD+  with 8 megs of memory.  I put MagicWB on it and if memory serves a eval copy of MUI was part of the installer.

As for a miminig core on the chameleon 64 should be fast enough for NewIcons, etc.  Has anyone tried either on a miming or chameleon 64? any issues?

I would wonder how the MasonIcons would look on a low-end machine?

Anyway, I'd vote for an old fave of mine:  AristIcons set.  I used them on my old A3000 in the late 90's:

AristIcons.  mmm I have never heard of them.  What libraries do they use?
