Roadshow 1.15 released
« on: February 15, 2024, 11:11:05 AM »
Slightly delayed by only 18 months (we are getting faster), the free Roadshow TCP/IP stack 1.15 update is now available to all customers.

This update is focused on improving installation and maintenance tasks, as well as making the installation documentation more useful and accessible. The single documentation file, still small in 2014, became increasingly unwieldy and has become a set of shorter files, each focused on one single aspect of Roadshow. By request, new documentation has been added which details all the files which will be installed for Roadshow.

The single installation script, which combined several tasks, became a set of scripts, each with its own task. The new update script will take care of upgrading an older Roadshow installation (versions 1.9-1.14) as well of upgrading a currently installed demo version to the commercial version.

New commands have been added to automatically find and install network device configuration files and fix errors & defects in the many configuration files Roadshow uses. You may no longer need to find and install the network device configuration files to match your network devices all by yourself.

By request, a "compact" Roadshow installation disk image (1.76 MByte high-density) is available for the first time, containing a "reduced" version of the full installation archive. The "compact" installation is restricted to software built for all Amigas (68000 CPU or better) and omits the large reference documentation.

As before, bug fixes and smaller enhancements have been made, which are detailed in the installation documentation. Some of the bugs resisted detection for more than 20 years... Starting with this Roadshow version, all the commands (in particular ftp, wget and tcpdump) consistently work under Kickstart 2.04, assuming that sufficient memory is available.

The new Roadshow software development kit (SDK), version 1.8, is also available for download. It contains much more example source code than before, including source code for all the new Roadshow commands. The vbcc compiler is fully supported for the first time and the existing gcc compiler support has been significantly improved.

Our thanks go to the beta testers and forum members who helped to make this update possible and to spark the ideas which led to the creation of the new Roadshow commands, the "compact" installation and the reworked installation documentation!

Roadshow ist available in three formats:

- As a digital download
- On CD-ROM
- On USB card (FAT32-formatted medium)

The CD-ROM and USB card versions include a digital download for Roadshow.

If you already bought the digital download, you can upgrade to the CD ROM or the USB card version for 4,90 €, plus shipping, in our online shop.

If you bought the CD-ROM version, you can "upgrade" to the USB card version for 4,90 €, plus shipping, in our online shop. The same holds true if you bought the USB card version and wish to "upgrade" to the CD-ROM version.

Careful: In order to order an upgrade, you need to do so with the same online shop account which you previously bought Roadshow with.

Tried updating using the "upgrade" lha, and it updated everything except bsdsocket.library. I then tried to apply patch manually (020 variant), but it failed, my registered 1.14 library wasn’t correct. Soooo I ended up just copying in bsdsocket.library from the "install" archive. Maybe the patches are for the "demo" version? What’s the purpose of this entire patch-job update anyways, wouldn’t be easier to have installer just copy in new files instead? Why seperate "install" and "update", when apparently the installer script in the "install" archive has an update functionality as well? It’s a tad confusing!

I went to order my "update" to the CD I bought in 2013; being in the US, I paid with Paypal (including a shipping cost greater than that of the update) and found that "The shop does not automatically recognize whether a payment for the order has been received because we do not pass any data to third parties. Only when we have finished the order by hand, the order is marked as Paid. Attention! This also applies to download orders."

I find it ironic that a TCP/IP stack to connect the Amiga to the Net, is paid by a digital bank (and a poor one at that), over the Web to a digital store site, and that the Upgrade has to be verified by hand, to be billed for and at a later date shipped by an analog method.

Ahm, the shipping costs for the full version and upgrade (CD or USB) are absolutely identical. There are no differences whatsoever.

Users who often order from us know that the shop actually recognizes quite well whether an order has been paid for and then automatically marks it as paid. And then you have access to downloads. But that doesn't always work if you don't want to pass on all of the customer's personal data to PayPal.
We write this in the order information because these problems arise from time to time (estimated at 3-5%) and there are also other payment methods that the shop cannot and is not allowed to read.

The shop does not create any invoices itself. The reason is that only part of our sales come through the shop.

What do you mean by “shipped by an analog method.” But it's not clear to me. If you order a USB stick or CD, how should we send it? Digital? ;)

Today morning we upload a small Update. Now work the installscript correct.

I'm not so sure, got the same error on a 68000 system.
However, patching manually with ced-patch worked, only took forever...

But why must this be so over-engineered?
Why not provide updated files and get rid of this ced-patch nonsense.
Why doesn't installer bail out when updating fails?
It could at least do a simple check in the end to see that what was supposed to be updated actually is updated.

To everyone: ensure after updating that "version full file libs:bsdsocket.library" says "4.364 (1.sep.23) Roadshow 1.15", if it says "4.347 (29.nov.19) Roadshow 1.14" (or less), then the update has just silently failed.

I picked up the v1.15 update (download), possibly before the minor update was done? I installed the smaller 'lite' version on a new 3.2.2 system to see what it did/contained.  I manually added smbfs v2.1 via separate utility floppy image, and got it connected to my NAS over that with no issue.

I then tried to update to the 'full Install' (copied down locally from the NAS), so I would have all the docs and any missing pieces, but the Install decided it was already installed, would not update the lie version.  I ultimately had to uninstall, and then re-install the full version.

Minor issue, but still annoying, so reporting.
