"..and the reaction intermediate is formed by a backside attack of the HOMO on the LUMO, giving rise to the following excited state..."

And I, with my accute inuenndo disorder, had to keep a straight face, since the guy lecturing was my supervisor!

Happy days

Ahh yes! That's why I choose chemistry :-) It's fine in a Lecture... but when you have to talk one to one in a toutorial about a backside attack... things get a lot harder

@ asian1
Hum, i had this on my site 1.5 months ago...

  • The Elements 113 and 115 have been created by a joint team of Russian and American scientists. The temporary names are ununtrium and ununpentium until the experiment has been duplicated and verified in another lab. According to the article, speculation has been made that

'Rather than being round, nuclei in that region and beyond could contain bubbles and have strange doughnut-like shapes'.

    I can`t remember the web-link just now...

But any claim in `leading-edge science` is usually taken with caution...:-)

    (not same team...?)

    Hi
Perhaps you should wait for IUPAC confirmation about the new elements. It take 3 years to find the hoax / fabricated / fake data on element 116 and 118.

    Yea,
    i know what you mean...

i imagine that it`s quite difficult when dealing with a few atoms of a very short lived element to have `complete` proof, and verification.
It`s more a case of probability nowadays.... :-)

    > hehe, it took the vatican 400 years to declare that they were in-fact wrong with the statement that the earth was at the centre

Since there's no fixed points in space, the earth might as well be the center.  :-)

For years China was considered the center.

And now it's the USA!

    Hum,
    very profound...

[all points in space-time are really the same point, but `extended`...Like the theory that an electron is really a positron that is going backwards in time; and that all the electrons  are/is really just one `sole` electron `popping` in and out of space time...]

    Hum,
    perhaps in another 400 years...
