Description: Here is a picture showing the backplate of my modified A4000 powersupply. This backplate allows plenty of airflow in contrast to the original backplate.

weirdami Posts:3776 | July 27, 2008, 02:27:38 AM We can't necessarily assume that Commodore had designed the backplate for special airflow characteristics. |
patrik Posts:1287 | March 11, 2007, 08:15:43 PM The fan blows over the whole circuit-board with the critical components at short range. The backplate has a small influence on the direction of such forced airflow. Also, I assure you that all components have more air moving around them now as the fan can use all the power it draws to move air instead of wasting a large portion of the power it draws merely on creating a high airpressure inside the psu. /Patrik |
koaftder Posts:2116 | January 09, 2007, 05:46:55 PM This is not a good idea. Allowing free airflow throughout the entire backplane may cause areas that need more airflow to get less as other areas that don't get warm get flow. Your modification may actually reduce the lifespan of your powersupply. |

patrik Posts:1287 | January 08, 2004, 03:57:32 PM No, it was not overheating, but I wanted to prolong the life of my A4000 and the expansions added to it. A bonus resulting from this modification is that the noise-level is less as the air can pass relatively unhindered now. I have also modified the fan intake hole on the opposite side of the powersupply. Now it is a quadratic hole except for the corners as it should be for optimal air-intake. One big reason too for me doing this is that I like to do small metal works . /Patrik |
