Its another day, almost like any other, except that today, I got the first of 3 new computers delivered (The other two should be here by the end of the week). Am I happy? Well yes and no, yes in as much as I have tested the hardware to make sure the damned thing posts, what I didn't bank on wast that the device required a custom cd drive, and that my laptop drive (as supplied by power computing about 5 years ago) and the spare standard sized CD-ROM drive would not fit, so after several calls I managed to get the part (£12) and all is well
Two are for me (One is going to be running linux and be setup as a hardware firewall, the other running BeOS and settup as a remote controled MP3 jukebox), the third sadly, has a much worse fate installed for it - it'll be running windows 2000.
The computers are compaq deskpro small form factor systems, with Pentium 2's and little by way of expandability (though the fact that it is on a custom motherboard sends me right back to the days of using my Amiga). Fortunately for the windows machine, it'll be upgraded with a Slot1 Pentium 3 - 600Mhz (£9) and 256Mb of SD Ram (£28) long before I set Windows on it.
