Title: Game of Thrones (again)
Post by: Iggy on May 24, 2014, 06:15:39 PM
I distinctly remember ridiculing HBO's "Game of Thrones", believing it to be yet another dreary show about the British monarchy, which shows you how little I pay attention to popular television shows.
That makes the fact that I have read a few of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of books all the more hilarious.
Honestly, as I count a few of you as my friends and admire quite a few more, should I ever stray into pomposity like this again, I count on all of you to deflate me a little.

BTW - How do you all keep track of the ridiculous number of characters and plot threads in this stuff?

I enjoy the show. I haven't read the books so maybe that helps?

They differ quite a bit, but the characters are the same.
All very amoral.

It all clicked for me after I rewatched season one.

Was GOT on this week? Seems like they took a break.

I watched seasons 1 - 3 over a weekend. I will watch season 4 when it finishes.

That is the way my Mother in-law watched the series.
Season 1-3 in a compressed period, and each season 4 episode the day after it airs via On Demand.

Frankly, I haven't had the time to try to focus on absorbing the remarkable breadth of this material.

And the differences between the series and the books is confusing.

I remember your post Iggy and thought you were making an analogy not a statement. Just put it down as another Iggyism.
That straight enuf for ya? :)

Def. "Iggyism" - anything unintentionally absurd

Sort of like my last day at work last week when I thought my coworkers were laughing at something I said when I turned away, and instead (unknown to me) I'd tucked my shirt up in my BVDs exposing my briefs.
