just don't use the shim with 68000 (guru 8000 0003 if Workbench is loaded)
At last fixed in 3.100 or 42.100 or whatever he prefers… though it still prevents SetPatch from patching copyright notice, boot with 3.1.4 kickstart and 3.1.4.1 setpatch and Hyperion pwns 2019, load the ViNCEd Con-handler “shin”(sic) and Hyperion only pwnz 2018 again. Bug reported a very long time ago, but only triggered a rather irrelevant kneejerk rant from “Der Richter” and no fix. Perhaps whoever managed to convince him about the 68000 bug (kudos btw) could also pass this one on, it looks bad that Hyperion only pwnz 2018 when they should pwn 2019, just because of Con-handler. And who knows what else SetPatch may fail to patch due to this, I have not explored, and my asbesto suit is getting thin when it comes to reporting bugs.
This problem also fixed now, in 3.101 or 42.101 - http://aminet.net/package/util/shell/ViNCEd

Quote
Changes made for 3.101:

ViNCEd now delays loading the icon and workbench libraries, and
only opens them when they are already in memory. This avoids
conflicts during early startup if only one of the libraries is replaced
by LoadModule. While this is potentially a user error, it may be
helpful to be conservative. ViNCEd now re-attempts to open the
libraries as soon as the preferences become available, i.e. whenever
   ENV: is created and filled.

Yes - "potentially a user error" is to use the OS version actually released, and not "between releases" OS installed on hard drive of the developer - shame on me :)

Anyways, kudos again for acting as der Richter-Filter!

No, it doesn't make much sense, noone ever struggled to distinguish these for more than 30 years - hopefully people can still READ!

No, most people don't read manuals. Most developers had to learn this the hard way. :D
What I meant was reading THE MENUS - hopefully no documentation should be needed to do that, heh.

Things have progressed since 1985 - GUIs are supposed to be self-explaining, albeit this presents an ongoing and sometimes impossible challenge, given the technical restrictions. Radio buttons are a well established paradigm for mutual-exclusive choices in AmigaOS since 1990, so it makes sense to extend it to menus as well.

Not really, we had cycle gadgets and cycle-to-menu - those have been using checkmarks. What do they use now?

Radio buttons can die, they are mostly redundant and just take a lot of space.

Quote
The rest has been said.

Are "hidden" volumes (wb prefs) possible to open via the "open volume" in Workbench menu? I haven't seen an answer to that.

Quote
C'mon, you must have detected more serious flaws. Even we did.

I don't have 3.2, I comment from what I see people fumble around with on youtube videos. But I understand that shell is almost just as broken as it was with 3.1.4 again in regards to FailAt levels and whatnot... even ThoR isn't using OS 3.2 release shell? So the question is now - how will Amiga Shell be maintaned from here, and how will updates be published? I __VERY MUCH__ preferred it when Thomas lumped updates to Aminet.

Try the TC020 version of icon.library found on aminet. This also makes any png icons you might have visible again.

What does icon.library have  to do with corruption of gadgets?

OS3.9's unarchiver doesn't work with new Reaction. It gives guru when target is choosed.
Shocking. What guru? 8000 0003 again?
Have you tried upping the stack?

Alas...

Oh great - so checkmarks as ...heh... "radiobuttons" are removed in menus, but kept in cycle-to-menu, with flying colours, litereally, da effin lolz... consistency!

This has now been changed; chooser.gadget will be consistent with the rest of the OS.

Really, haha, that’s funny - how about removing all “theming” and render Sys:Prefs/ReAction pointless while you’re at it, so all ReAction classes render to something consistent with the OS… rest of the OS.. hehe, I’m sure it would also shrink the code and remove bloat as well.

>Are "hidden" volumes (wb prefs) possible to open via the "open volume" in Workbench menu?
No.
Right, though so. That’s one aspect of “hide volume” in Workbench prefs that I really don’t like, it goes too far. Typically it is used to remove clutter from the root desktop, but it also makes it impossible to open a Workbench window of the volume or any of its sub-drawers at all.

One more - in 3.2, do any of “Update all”, “Redraw all” or “Reset WB” move left out icons and volume icons back to their stored positions? I *really* think “Update all” should clean up the root window too, and not just volume and drawer windows.

I really don’t see the point of the “open volume” unless it can be used for “hidden” volumes.

So there’s now “win” command? That doesn’t make much sense, the name is flat out confusing, no reference to workbench and could just as well be the counterpart to a “loose” command. For decades we’ve had wbrun, why not use that? A simple rexx script will do.

@Minuous
Oh, and are really SURE that you can open a hidden volume or any of its drawers using this "win" command? I know for SURE that it certainly does NOT work using any CLI command (wbrun) or Workbench AREXX port on OS 3.1.4.1, so it would be fun to really have it confirmed, and also have it confirmed that same can now be done using RX "Address Workbench WINDOW 'Hidden:' OPEN"

This is Amiga and Workbench, there are no good reason to clutter the screen with tons of windows in the first place, at least I never have this problem - bringing root to top is just a hotkey away. It would make more sense if it was more like macOS and the Workbench menu was _always_ there, even when other programs’ windows were active, but it’s not.

I can’t speak for others, but I never hide volumes, I only hide devices. For example on MIST I have both a fat95 SD0: and cachecdfs CD0: both scsi.device unit 1, and both mounted at boot - I use GhostBuster and its WB prefs and set both DS0: and CD0: to hide if not valid filesystem. Of course this feature is not in OS 3.2 because then users cannot format partitions, says ThoR. However, if I could hide ALL volumes and instead use arexx to open them rather than double clicking volume icons - I would! To be more precise, I would make icons on the desktop that would replace the volume icons, and havr them do much more than just open the drawers. Reminds me, on my wishlist is “triggers” for double clicking on workbench background and window backgrounds, with and without qualifiers, so one can configure double click on background to launch an arexx script, shift + double click to run a command etc. Same for windows, but with path to window being passed on as an argument.

The way Workbench works on 3.1.4.1, a hidden volume can not be opened AT ALL as a wb window, neither can any subdrawer, and left out icons are of course also not there. From previous comment by Minuous, this MAY have changed in OS 3.2, but I know better than to trust that :)
