Suggestions for rocket exhaust/gases in Lightwave?
« on: February 14, 2015, 04:45:35 PM »
Hi, I'm posting this question here because if I Google for answers I get suggestions for the latest Windows version of Lightwave (v11).  I'm using Lightwave 5.0 for the Amiga;

Can anyone suggest the best way of generating rocket nozzle exhaust effects in Lightwave 5.0?  I'm talking about propulsion flames.

In Aladdin4d I would use the "gas" feature with an animated texture and perhaps some flares added for exhaust particles.  As far as I understand, Lightwave doesn't do gases, or perhaps it can with some sort of workaround?

Does anyone have any advice for achieving this effect?

Thanks.

I vaguely recall there was a plugin that helped doing things like this.. but Im afraid I forgot, too. Do you have the Inside Lightwave cd-rom? I think its on it.

Dear Friend:

I believe there was a tutorial in 'newtekniques' magazine, by Dave Jerrard,
which shows how to make explosions in lightwave 5.But the principles can be
easily employed to make gases. In lightwave.
If you want me to, I can dig into my lightwave magazines, and search for
the tutorials, then scan them and send to you.
Actually, one of the tutorials (if I remember correctly) was called gas with glass,
and I think it actually showed how to make gas.
Cheers !!!

I'm running this in WinUAE, so really I have 128MB of RAM or more.

Also, this is for rocket exhaust/fire in space, rather than at take-off, so more of a "clean flame" effect.

I'd love to hear of methods on how to do this that do not involve third-party plugins.  I'm willing to try plug-ins, but those tend to run into problems if you don't have the exact version of Lightwave they require.
