This is in preparation for running on Raspberry Pi, just to show Arm Aros in action on a mobile device. Hopefully if people start to try it then the developers will join by porting their software. No excuse on cost, Raspberry Pi is only around $35

At $35 it would be a bargain compared to spending the amount required for a Sam. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to set up some sort of bounty based on that saving alone. $35 sounds too good to be true

a 35.00$ very capable computer If AROS runs on it.

browser, usb, file system, video display, yeah for 35.00$ it would be an awesome setup.

The least expensive "amiga" computer ever.

Can someone explain me how you will run OWB which consumes sometimes more than 200MB of RAM on a device with only 256MB RAM?

My PNG Wallpaper would kill the system if i open it with multiview while OWB is running running.

In other words:
stupid idea to make a hype about a 35$ system without any case and old tech.

Check the web for ARM based multimedia players and choose on of them as reference platform.

PI is a geek toy, and even for us it is "geeky".
512MB IS the very minimum for AROS if you wan't a "modern" experience with games, web-browsing, video and audio playback AND "multitasking".

well A500 only had 512Ko RAM !

I guess AROS and 3rd party softwares will need some major improvements then...

just my 2 cents

I love it, running AROS on a mobile phone is just so cool it's hot!  Now if there were a touch interface and a dialing application....

swapon

(p.s.  That's a joke..  The obvious answer is a trimmed down version of OWB, or another browser..  And it's less than 256M, as some of that goes to video..)
Amiga 1200 w/ ACA1230/28 - 4G CF, MAS Player, ext floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 500 w/ 2M CHIP and 8M FAST RAM, DCTV, AEHD floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 1000 w/ 4M FAST RAM, DUAL CF hard drives, external floppy.

??? Guys OWB is optimized!
Are you using a different Internet than me?
Modern websites are the reason why every modern Browser needs a bit of RAM.
256MB is a bit of RAM. Sometimes it sucks a Gig or more.

Better buy an Efika MX if you like a "computer like" experience.

The browser is not the primary intended use of the RPi.  It's for kids to tinker with and write their own programs with.  It's $35 because the kids' version is only $25 and leaves off the ethernet port entirely.

As for a computer-like experience, it depends on the computer you like to experience.  If we didn't already have a desktop or laptop to access this website on, we wouldn't be able to post here.

Web-browsers try too hard to be Swiss-Army knives.  A better use of memory would be to use a separate application for each protocol and a separate protocol for each use.

Possibly.
I have Firefox open right now with 4 tabs, and it's taking 259M.

So I don't see any reason why a more efficient browser couldn't handle a single tab or 2 with much less.

And I see that AROS has SVM (Swappable Virtual Memory) on the plan, so that would make it much more feasible..
http://aros.sourceforge.net/documentation/users/faq.php

Personally, I would think any website that uses that much memory itself is probably exactly the type of website I wouldn't go to..  :-)
