Indeed, is there a huge difference?

I spent about 2 days installing the previous version on an old PII Thinkpad and was pleased with the results.

I wouldn't want to go through it all again though for only small improvements.

I am looking forward to an SFS version before updating this install.

I agree Matt.  Amistart was a much needed item to me.  It makes getting to your files not as much trouble.  The change of the the drawer icons is nice, it gives it the classic look.
It wasn`t alot of trouble to harddrive install on my old Pentium3, and works good with an old Trident AGP card.  Aros has come along way since I first saw it around 98-99.

Is AROS usable for annything right now it hasent one interesting app its just to play around yes and i have a pc running AROS MAX it misses to much to be called a OS if you ask me.

But the progess is HUGE caompared to what it was so it will improve even more, thats good to know.
But as for me not usable as a OS just as a play ground

For me personaly its starting to become usefull (at least with the release of the irc client) =) if you have the skills to set it up with SFS yourself you will notice a HUGE speed difference! hoppefully by the time Coolcat releases 0.5.0 SFS will be the main filesystem.

Has AROS changed much over the last year?

The last time I burnt an ISO, it booted up, I thought "cool", clicked about opening a few windows, then thought "Now what?"

It probably didn't help that quite a few of the demos refused to work (dunno if it was just my manky old laptop, or the fact it was running off CD).

Anyway, I've now got a PC again (after about a year without one) and I'm tempted.

Is it worth the 10p or so worth of CD-R to try it out or will I be disappointed again?

That depends Andy =) the progess since a year is "big" the OS is comming along nicely and is in my opinion now useable! before burning that CD id say read the forum on aros-exec.org to see what others think and check the gallery there for some screenshots and then decide if its worth that CD.

I think that AROS will become an integral part of that Amiga in an FPGA: Minimig project. If it goes into commercial production, you would probably like a default operating system on there, and can't exactly use Workbench because of legal issues.
