How is some Acube or A-eon hardware more nostalgic than Apple? To be honest I dont see difference. If you want nostalgia go buy real Commodore Amiga 500.

I know it is difficult to let old trademark go... ten years I bought Amiga gear (games, magazines, software, hardware...) to support Amiga companies and so on and finally I had to let it go. All that money wasted on CU Amiga or Amiga Format, poor quality Amiga games and what not. The Amiga is not coming back.

Simply put they were designed and made by Amiga users for Amiga users.
I still have my original A500 & A1200 and they unfortunately have been neglected ever since I got my old Samflex back in 2009.

You say supporting Amiga companies is a waste of time and I say it gives me great joy to know that my favourite OS is still alive today and being actively developed. When I use my X1000 and AspireOS on my netbook I get this feeling of resilient pride and my wife & friends tell me I always have a mischievous smirk on my face :-)

You say 'wasted money' but I say 'priceless';)

To me there's a huge difference between buying a brand spanking new, purpose built machine like a Sam, and buying someone else's cast-off. I know that effectively they're similar, but it's a psychological thing. Plus there are things that I love about my Sam which an Apple can't do, for instance the massively low power consumption and silence (it has an SSD), as well as the fact that it's using something a bit esoteric like the 440ep chip rather than a standard G4.
And it has the added advantage that it's helping toward the future. Buying a used PowerMac doesn't encourage any new hardware in the future, buying a Sam or X1000 encourages and rewards the people working on it, and new hardware which in turn is likely to be more powerful than current machines (OS4 or MOS) can be built.

That's why I prefer going the bespoke hardware, anyway. Horses for courses, though, really, of  course.

I understand that some want "dedicated hardware", something special that most others not have. But when we want to grow and get some life again we need concepts that are attractive to "outsiders", even for people that never owned Amiga in their life and not just nostalgic feelings. Most people outside never used "Amiga" in their life and I do not see anything regarding AOS and MOS that could attract new users. Where are the new ideas and innovatations?

You buy a SAM to run Linux? There are certainly cheaper ways to do that...

@spirantho

A vintage Mac Mini capable of running MOS with a non-SSD hard drive has an idle power consumption of 23w and a max of 110w, with a thermal output of 79 BTU/h idle and 376 BTU/h Max.  How does that compare with your Sam440ep Flex?

Modern Mac Minis are more efficient but don't run MOS....

Acube doing for us cool and sexy hardware.

There is no reason to sacrifice it.

Rather, the rest of the community should do something to attract new users.

For example, MorphOS, why keep this system closed source?

MOS team will not earn money, on sale of MorphOS dedicated hardware.

MorphOS should be open source.

And MOS team should join forces with AROS developers.

"And MOS team should join forces with AROS developers."

I already tried to start to discuss it as least but the answer was clearly no. It will never happen. Hyperion will develope AOS as long there are enough people that pay the updates and the MorphOS team is not definitely not interested. I do not think the MorphOS team acts this way because of money. Perhaps they are so proud on their "baby" that it is out of discussion. Partly there are legal reasons (copyrighted parts)

@ppcamiga1

Rather than trying to find new users we should concentrate on retaining old ones.  There's really very little that would attract outsiders, and not enough money to change that.

 I'd love to know how do you calculate this, based on Eyetech lifespan?  Kamelito

one thing I don't get, the biggest bashers here seems to be the MOS users. "Its underpowered" "its 1998 all over again" "Dont rely on old HW" "The amiga wont have any new HW in x amount of years" Yet, what new HW does MOS support? Sooner or later, sticking to old ppc mac will get you just that, old hardware.

Who cares about cpu clock, the sam is not about power, rather, to me at least, the opposite, low power usage.

I still use my A1200/060 no moving parts at all, doesnt make a sound, not even the floppies. Its underpowered compared to +3ghz what-ever cpu. But I still enjoy using my amiga.

And you know, the easiest thing to do is web-bashing, that doesnt require anything at all.

Not tried Linux on a 460 specifically, but have used it extensively on my 440ep.  Runs like a champ (Debian).

It is just too expensive support this ecosystem. There will be a day they say enough is enough and quit Amiga market.

Nah, SAM is just ok and current price  ~300 is quite reasonable.

Hmm btw:

But you rather bash those who want GHz machines instead of 667MHz? Hmm...
