How many of you own Amiga-related domains?
« on: April 14, 2005, 01:25:07 AM »
How many of you own your own Amiga-related domain names?  Which registrar do you use?  As you may know, I work for directNIC, but I've also had a chance to use both Godaddy domains and Yahoo Domains in the past.

Now the company I work for has opened Domaincontender (at domaincontender.com) with prices at $7.95 but I was just curious as to how many of you are domain owners?

Is that a month or what?

I'm looking to register a domain name, that's why I'm asking?

I've registered PimpMyAmiga.org.uk - was planning on turning it into a showcase of modded Amigas, but haven't got very far yet :-)

I use http://www.ukreg.net to register all my domains (I've got a couple of .org.uk ones, and a .com one); it only costs a few quid per year, but that's just for the name - no hosting or anything.

@methuselas,

No.  DomainContender.com is $7.95 per year for the registration of a domain.

Yeah, I went and checked it out last night. I meant to ask you about the POP3 access, though. If I use your POP account, how many email accounts can I have? As it stands, I need around 5, for artists and writers, plus one for an info@ account. Do I have to pay 5$ a pop for each one?

Yes.  Their big thing is low-cost domains and free hosting.  If you need lots of pop accounts, you might be better off with our full hosting provider, zipa.com.

I tried the lookup deal and it said "not available" in the whois table but in the availability table it said "Available - add too cart" but clicking the add to cart puts up a whois table of "not available". Weirdness.

I have two domains - a .com and a .org.uk .  Neither is specifically Amiga related but I am planning to add Amiga content on one of them.  As pretty much all bases are covered it will probably be rehashed stuff! (I pay approx £10 a year for each and have unlimited e-mail addresses on each [theoretically, obviously; I don't know the limit but have 20 on one of them].  Using MySQL and so forth costs a little extra.

Looking at the subject again, are you wondering about people owning domains containg the word "Amiga"?  There must be a few here surely...   Do you own any others yourself?
