How do you make a superkickstart v.3.1?
« on: May 27, 2005, 01:08:15 AM »
Greetings,

I was tinkering with my friend's A3000D, and I want to know if there's a web site that tells you the procedure on how to make a superkickstart with a version 3.1 rom image. I have a Rom image from AF6, tried it but I end up getting a 'Guru'! :-? Maybe peps here can help me how I can make use of it? or any other method, would be helpful. Thanks! :-)

Specs: A3000 with 16MB fast ram, 030 MMU processor, kickstart 1.4, Superkickstart disk v2.x, A high density DF0: , 40MB SYSTEM HDD, External SCSI Macintosh CDRom Drive(yep it works :-D) His Workbench installers are not Entirely complete so I installed some libraries from old AmigaFormat CD's(still working on it).

Regards,

GiZz72

I might be wrong about this, but wouldn't it be easier to try and track down a set of 3.1 ROMs instead?

I did't get what you meant by 'track down a set of 3.1 ROMs'?

Try and find a pair of A3000 3.1 ROM chips.

Greetings,

@Adz
Ok, I see. :-)
I can't do that, it's not mine. According to him he can't afford hardware replacements, just software. All he want is to connect his SCSI Ext CDRom and it to the Internet. I got the ext. cdrom to work without any hassle. Just connecting it online is the tricky part. The reason I wanted to to be kickstart 3.0 cause I have the complete set and easier to configure. As for the WB2.1, is a nightmare getting it to run MUI without any problems. :-(

I am sorry but it would be illegal for him to run AmigaDOS 3.0 on his A3000 computer.  You see the A3000 series computers came with AmigaDOS 2.0x and the AmigaDOS 3.1 was an "upgrade"  So technically this is not allowed.  And we do not like that here on Amiga.org right everyone?  ;)

But if you must, you can get it softkicked to 3.1, you will need a A3000 ROM and a softkick tool like skick.

Try the tool on Aminet: util/misc/MakeSuperDisk.lha

Short:  V1.6, Makes SuperKickstart disks from ROM files
Author: Olaf `Olsen' Barthel
Type:   util/misc

Perhaps whatever you were using to make SyperKickstart disks wasn't working, try this.
Also, you need to make sure the ROM you are writing to disk is the correct version for a A3000D, e.g. a A1200 Kickstart 3.1 ROM image won't do the trick IMHO.

I tried that...no luck (didn't work for me).
My A3k was also a SoftKick machine. (I installed 3.1 roms).
Anyway the way I did it was to install the 2.04 kick file
and OS 2.04 then I copied over the correct KS file into
Devs (I think it was) and did an Dos update to OS 3.1.
It worked great, the machine never had a problem with it.
The only problem is finding the correct KS file. It needs to
have the bonus code attached. Not just any 3.1 file will
work.
Sorry .. I don't think I have the file anymore.
I lost a HD awhile back and it went with it.

Yeah, it has to have the "bonus code" (that what they call it?).  The 3.1 superkick was never officially released except to beta testers IIRC, but it is floating around on the net anyway in an archive with about a hojillion other Amiga kickstart images.

Usenet is your friend.  Google too, maybe.
