Post by: Xray1806 on November 12, 2011, 10:39:11 AM
Hi,

*Update*

There is a new BBS System Online !

I have quit running CNet BBS
Software FidoNet compatible !

You can connect the system with telnet://amibinkd.dyndns.org:5432 (http://telnet://amibinkd.dyndns.org:5432/)

This is also the home off the new FidoNet Mailer System for Amiga AmiBinkd, and some other software i have maked.

My system has also FidoNet message support online and the lasted updates from Zeus BBS Software and AmiBinkd.

I hope to see you all on my board

This is the Facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/groups/275727805799546/

Greetings,

Rudi Timmermans.

Hi Xray,

Congrats for the new BBS.

I'm trying to connect using MacOS X and this is the answer:

MacBook-Pro:~ amiga$ telnet amibinkd.dyndns.org:5432
94.224.21.57:5432: nodename nor servname provided, or not known

Why not use the stantard telnet 23 port?

Best Regards

@chusete
Try it without the colon:

telnet amibinkd.dyndns.org 5432

Don't use a colon in your connection argument.  Not using the standard telnet port makes it less likely that some jackass will beat the hell out of it trying to h4x0r it.  Not eliminate, but less likely.

Not to mention using a port other than 23 generally keeps your ISP off your ass if you have one like mine that "prohibits users running services".

Hi,

Here is the correct connect string:

telnet://amibinkd.dyndns.org:5432 (http://telnet://amibinkd.dyndns.org:5432/)

Thanks!

Greetings,

Rudi Timmermans.

I am sorry, I am dying to hear this. How exactly are you the official CNet BBS support site? How exactly are you affiliated with Daniel Fitzgerald or Storms Edge? I mean I am dying to hear this. Please regal us all with your tail of becoming the the official cnet support site.

Yeah I am that Black Phantom

I've been trying to get in touch with the CNet folks for well over a year to buy the latest version of CNet.  I'm a regged owner of v3.x, but for well over a year I've been entirely unable to either find an upgrade path or outright purchase a brand new up to date copy, and I've tried emailing every contact I've found for CNet.  More than happy to purchase an entirely new copy, but no one has ever returned a single email.

Any help on who to talk to would be more than appreciated!

Ok, well I am a registered owner of CNet PRO 5.10b (16.1.7) (c)2005-2007 and I can tell you from my own personal experience that it don't mean squat anymore.

So take this as your call finally being answered. CNet is dead, I watched it burn out of existence. I owned the cnetbbs.net domain for a time with support, I was there when the software switched hands, and I was there for every disappointed sysop that came along. I will be there when the last classic system goes off line and I can tell you with all the certainty in the world that will not be you.

So let me get this right, your official cnet support, but you don't run cnet because it's broken? I mean it's hard to understand what your saying so I dunno how you are able to support any english speaking software.

As far as you Dan, if your out there reading this I call bulls!@% on you. You had plenty of support out here when you bought this crap software and you squandered it. I guess we all weren't good enough for you or something cuz you left us hanging man. I guess you would rather deal with fly by night uncommitted fair weathered sysops then anyone in for the long haul. Because then you would really have to be committed, eh?

Cool!  A new chapter in the CNet soap opera!  It does warm my heart that some things in the Amiga community really have stayed the same after all these years!  Ah, memories.  I wonder whatever happened to the early Amiga CNet 0.94 beta and CNet 2.0 I had...  :D

Shame CNet seems to be such a mess lately.  If it becomes more stable and there's someone I can speak to, I'd love to give a status report on my Amiga BBS Blog (see my A.org profile for link).  If the current owners of the CNet software could contact me, that would be just super.

For any nostalgic sysops wanting to fiddle around, Excelsior! BBS is now entirely free, as is DLG Professional BB/OS (DLG source is available as well).  Zeus is always a terrific option as well, which is what I am currently running in an extremely customized fashion while I slug away at trying to convert DLG to PPC/OS4.  I've tried to get ahold of the Xenolink guys to see if they would be interested in releasing Xenolink freely, but haven't heard back yet.

I'm legally blind and missed the email link you were so gracious to point out between back handed comments and insults.

You know, the one you left in your previous completely patronizing public post that for some reason inferred I was an idiot for having interest and questions in a program that apparently keeps you awake at night and forces you to insult well meaning strangers.

Yes, vision problems caused me to not see it, combined with not wanting to delve too deep into your ragefest towards a computer program. Feel like a dickhead yet?

Hi BlackPhantom,

Well let me explane some thing here.

Me and Daniel try to make as possible CNet bug free, i work from my home so i have the full day to test on CNet.

You have also to understand that Daniel has be the 3 developer from Cnet Ken was the first and then Ray and his companion. So it's verry hard when you buy a source code from a coder every coder have it's on coding so Daniel has to take all the bad coding out off the source, as you know Cnet is a beast off software and a big source code

Second it was also a hard bussiness when Daniel take over the code, it take years to get the code and stuff. So here is also a resion wy Cnet's support was verry bad. Bet Daniel try to do his best hi can i have every day with him mail contact about CNet to make it better and better.

I understand everone his message also here. Now you know all how and what the problem was all about CNet.

The CNet thing has been frustrating ever since the person who took over the development and support for CNet after Ken Pletzer, had a falling out and the whole thing was in limbo for many years. While there was no offical support, BP helped new SysOps, as well as returning SysOps like me get our systems up and going on classic hardware as well as emulated with WinUAE.

When Dan did finally work out a deal with Todd Knight, who controlled the code and rights, (I have some stories to tell about all that too... ), things looked like it was going to get better for all of us, as there were some pretty major bugs in code we had available to us. During this, Dan asked BP to remove all CNet support files from his website and BBS. The reason being I heard was to keep support in one place for everyone to have access to. Shortly after, news and updates soon stopped coming out. The CNet website has not been updated in years, and emails from Dan take a long time to get a reply, or even any kind of response at all.

In a rare span of time where I was able to email Dan and get some replies, he did mention that with the economy going down hill, he had to focus on his full time job to keep himself afloat. I understood that. But now, out of no where, and I even recently emailed him to check on a CNet status, we discover that a new version is now released, and a new support BBS is now available, yet Future World II, the main support BBS still seems to be silent.

I stopped running my CNet BBS because of the bugs I mentioned before. I decided that I would return when those were addressed. Dan knows what they are because I have talked to them about them. And Yes, Dan has helped me with issues with CNet via email as well.

It's just very frustrating that no news was released, and support has all but dried up. Now we are given a new BBS and discover that new a new version is available, yet the website is still not updated and no info from Dan. Plus no way to purchase CNet other than emailing Dan.

The whole CNet issue has been brewing for a while. I don't blame Rudi for any of this. He's just doing his thing and trying to make CNet better. But as a CNet SysOp, I am upset with the current situation with the support and options available to me. I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact, I won't be running CNet anymore. While I still do like the software, the whole situation has just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Lets keep it brewing... Yes 5 years have past, and I feel its still never to late.
