Thank you, Bloodline. I quite like it myself (my dodgy vocal
notwithstanding... :-D )

I prefer your vocal to the other blokes.

Hi Bloodline,

Sorry for the late reply. I'm not long back from a stonkingly good
snowboarding holiday in Bulgaria and this is my first log in to the
org since.

Thanks very much for the vocal compliments.

We start recording again tonight after my winter-sports fuelled
absence. :pint:

I've also just found out it'll cost around 250 euro to repair my A1.

Mac-mini is looking very attractive right now.

Newe version of "Out of Sight" up.
Electric guitar replaced by acoustic and reworked drums and bass.

I'll be adding another song or two over the next few days.

We've also registered

and redirected it to myspace.

New track: The Sheikh, pays homage to the supposed "Voyant", currently peddling his rather dubious wares around the South side of Glasgow.

@Bloodline:

That's a very cool song on your site. Any reason why it's not available for download?

That you singing?

Think I might also (cash permitting) be pestering you for Logic advice in the not too distant future.

Cheers, The record company were reluctant to let me even show the track... I actually wanted to show one of the other tracks, but none of them have had a final mix or been mastered yet... but "Myself" is pretty close, so they agreed as long as it was for listening only... so no downloads yet...

I'll be happy to help any way I can (not just Logic advice ;-) )! You'll find with Logic, that it becomes much easier to get a clean crisp sound... far better than the expensive, non portable Protools system we were using...

A good Logic setup doesn't come cheap though :-(

£1800 - For a 2Ghz MacBook Pro (With 2gig RAM).
£699  - For Logic Pro 7.2
£360  - For an Edirol FA-101 Half-Rack Firewire Audio interface

£2860 - Grand total!!

And then you need a decent set of mics...throw another £2000 on the fire :-o

Then the more adventurous can get a control surface (assuming your Midi keyboard doesn't have one built in)... anther £800...

Oh, and send my appologies to Potsy

Ah, I see. I didn't realise you were signed. What label and, if it's not too nosey, how did they hear about you?

OK - we're a bit away from that yet.
Would I be able to do much with the following?:
1.33Ghz iBook (512meg RAM) - already have
Logic Express - can get for £170
M-Audio midi/audio interface. can get for ~£80.
-EDIT-
We also have one decent condenser mic. already.

Yeah, Logic Express will do fine on that. I assume you'll be mosting using it as a non-linear multitracker, so just make sure you choose what effects you run in the 8 busses carefully! I always prefer to plan out how I'm going to route it once the songs is worked out, but before we record.

That way most tracks can route through one of your 8 fx busses, and that still leaves you 4 inserts per audio track for any extras ;-)

Try to avoid the "Heavy" (i.e. platinum effects), unless you can be sure that the track can be frozen to save on the CPU. The less CPU grunt you have, the more carefully you have to plan the structure of the song... as it limits the complexity of your edits.

Also, do try to get a Firewire interface, they are bus powered which is a life saver, and suffer a lot less from latency... gahhh... USB2 and latency :pissed:

I hope I didn't offend him, I just prefer your vocal. I think your vox will be easier to mix and require less effects to get a distinctive sound.

Cheers for the advice.
I'm a tad skinty-poo just now but I'll be scoring LE as soon as cash allows.
Is it really that big a difference between USB & FW?

To tide you over until funds become avaiable I would remind you that LE does not have the dongle protection of LP ;-)

Yes... I can't stress this enough. USB2 audio devices are not (yet) at the same standard as firewire. While USB2 is more than able to handle the bandwidth required, it  has a much higher latency and requires larger buffers to work properly.

I have also not found a decent Audio interface for under £350... having tried out four different devices, I founf the FA-101 to be the most stable (in both Windows and MAcOS) and has the best quality Preamps (for the price) and a wonderful repsonse on it's A/D and D/A converters (-110dB noise floor!).

With music equipment you really do get what you pay for... but unlike "computer equipment" a good audio device remains usefull as long as it still works.

@MDMA,

If you get a minute, have a read of our latest blog entry.
You will surely recognise, perhaps a little wistfully, some of the silly goings on mentioned. ;-)
