looking for sources for ATA/133 (EIDE) drives
« on: August 22, 2012, 04:22:46 PM »
We have a couple of older computers around the house which use 250GB ATA/133 hard drives rather than SATA.  I'd like to find some spare hard drives for them if possible.  It looks like these are becoming much more difficult to find recently.  NewEgg no longer has a large selection of the IDE/ATA drives.  Does anyone know any good sources for them ?

eBay?  You can also find them at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores.

Sorry, I buy most my PATA drives of ebay, in some cases it's cheaper to buy a SATA drive and use a PATA to SATA converter (depending on what volume you want to use).

Yep, and mostly in bulk.  Last time I wanted some drives for my Amiga they came in lots of 20.  :)
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Agree with Matt, I have used Macsales.com and enjoyed they're drives.  I picked up a Mercury Legacy Drive (PATA) for my powerbook and it has been a great drive.  Just ordered a sata one for my 3000D.

For $100 or so you get an extremely fast and quite drive, admittedly no old system will be able to leverage all the speed that a SSD can deliver, but SSD's are so nice.  I'm not going back to spinning drives again!!!
