voltage drop doesn't matter much; it is less than 0,7V since current is small , I would leave it as is.

I see a silicon diode in the hack. Sorry, but that's wrong!

 Use a germanium one instead.

 Silicon diodes have a 0.7V drop versus 0.3V on the germanium ones.
