« on: May 18, 2006, 01:32:52 PM »
Hi all, I have successfully installed AmiKIt 1.1.3 onto my pc. On a genuine Amiga I use Genesis or MiamiDX to connect to the internet. I am on broadband. How do I connect using AmiKit as it dosent have either of these programs. Please help.

bsdsocket.library emulation is built into WinUAE so as long as your PC is properly configured for the 'net, WinUAE will be able to access through the bsdsocket.library emulation

Hi, Thanks for your prompt reply. I have tried connecting on line first through windows and then launching AmiKit and if I then run Ibrowse get the message, host lookup failed No DNS entry found. On trying IBrowse I get Error while retrieving cannot resolve host name. My PC connects and works fine on Windows XP and internet explorer. Please help.

I'm surprised you have these problems. I use a cable modem connection to the Internet. I am able to browse quite easily within Amiga Forever 2005 emulation and also while running AmiKit. Could this be a hardware recognition issue?

In WinUAE, have you ticked the box bsdsocket.library emulation under the Host/Misc settings heading?

I haven't used winuae for a while (and not the latest version), but I recall you may have to check a box to use the bsdsocket.library (in the winuae configuration interface).  Have you done this?

I think when I used winuae last, I just checked that box to activate the feature, and didn't have to make any other changes within the Amiga environment to access the internet.

edit- damnit, beat me to it
Good good study, day day up!

Just click with your mouse....
I installed AmiKit on my lappy and had to do nothing to configure it - I'm on DSL. Both IBrowse and AWeb run OK.

The bsdsocket libary emulation is ticked but it is still not working. Maybe Winuae hasnt installed properly. I wonder if deleting and reinstalling would help.

looks like that you don't have nothing to loose. clean up the registry before reinstal with a tool like easy cleaner
A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9
A1260BPPC AmigaOS 3.9/4.0
Sam440ep AmigaOS 4.1.2
PegasosII/G3 AmigaOS 4.1.2/MorphOS 2.7/Debian 5.0.7/SUSE 11.1
MacMini/G4 1.5 MorphOS 2.7/OSX 10.5.8
Long Live Amiga

If i am going to have bugs on my system,
at least let me keep the latest versions.

Could it be that you are using a broadband USB modem that doesnt establish proper (full) Windows network connection that using a router would?

I think this has nothing to do with WinUAE installation. Aren't you running some kind of firewall that blocks WinUAE to get online?
