Agreed, make detailed documentation on the thing before you sell it - measurements of the case, pics, etc.

I made a Walker-ish clone case a year or two back for my SAM, but never having seen the thing IRL and no measurements to go off, my version is likely way off dimensionally.

Thing needs to go to a good home, or a museum!

Would like to see a picture of your effort Duce.

PS: Did you ever visit his web site?
http://www.blachford.info/computer/walker/walker.html
its got the sizes already

  • Width 26 cm
  • Depth 37 cm
  • Height 28.5 cm (total)

  • Height Bottom section (not including feet) 6.5 cm
  • Height Top section (to highest point) 20 cm
  • Height Top section (Front face only 17 cm

  • Height Feet (bottom of foot to bottom of case) 2 cm
  • Width Feet (at bottom) 3.5 cm
  • Depth Feet (where they meet bottom of case) ~2.3 cm
  • Height lower Feet  (bottom of foot to bottom of case) 2 cm

PPS: dont open it up to international buyers, it will make it hard for me to get it

You knows what been even harder to judge the sizes off the AmigaMCC I currently working on, anyone know what ever happened to that prototype case?

Walker has Workbench 3.2 and 3.2 rom.

What is difference between 3.1 and 3.2 Workbench???

Would I get any benefits to using workbench 3.2??

Has anyone looked inside of walker rom??

In 1996 a 68030 was still a reasonable, middle of the road system for home use.  A good market to go after when you are starting up.  Not bad when you consider the competition was the Intel 486.

Dude, in 1996 I was already upgrading my PC from a Pentium 90 to a Cyrix 6x86 P166+. Both the 68030 and Intel 80486 were already far obsolete.

@MelbourneBen

It's tempting, I must admit.  Depends how much over £250 he wants.  Wonder how much it weighs?

Weight?  Not sure but it's not very heavy.  But to ship it that far will will require a crate and that will up the weight a lot.

OTOH I'll not include the monitor - it's a CRT so is heavy.

There are measurements on the web site but I didn't describe them very well.  However, I took some pictures the other night with a ruler included to get better measurements :-)

@minator: Looking forward to the extra pictures you got!
If you remember, i'm the one who started building the "replica" over at eab. :)
I trully hope this goes to loving hands; if only the darn crisis wouldn't have hit us.... :( i'd surely try buying it from you!
Just a small favor, try telling the potential buyer to not disappear, and release any more details possible for the rest of us.
Thanks!

@Persia

I reacon it'll go for more than 250 pounds, my guess would be around 400. Then you'd have to consider postage which I'm guessing would cost between 50 and 100 pounds.

I'd love to get hold of it myself but I just can't justify the cost for a machine that doesn't actually function.

I'd also be very interested too see the contents of the 3.2 rom.

It will be interesting to see what happens ;-)

So what ended up happening with this being put up for sale?

I decided to hold off for a while.  I wanted to try and get it working again and salvage the ROM.

I've been busy so haven't been able to get it going again.  However the ROM has been salvaged and it'll hopefully be available to everyone in the future.

I'll be busy for a while yet so it may be another month or so before I do anything with it.

Thanks for taking the time to get the ROM image. It will be interesting to hear from people who have a poke around with it.

OK, an update:

I'm still thinking of selling it but it might be a while yet:

I'm going to try a bit more to get her working.  I'll see if I can get the HD RDB fixed as well - I have instructions for this but don't know if they'll work on a PC.

I've been asked a few times to save Kickstart / Workbench 3.2.  I have a copy of the data on the disc but I'll see about getting the ROMs dumped as well.

I am also now considering opening up the sale to international folks.
I think I have figured out a way to get it transported without destroying the case.  It involves dismantling it and putting the bits into a wooden box full of bubble wrap or polystyrene bits.  It'll be expensive to ship but should be transportable to pretty much anywhere then.

I cant promise money, but I can promise the best possible service.
On A1k.org are a lot of professionals with electronic background.
If you like the idea we can also talk about loan and we can try to reactivate it.
Just an idea ...

Can I imagine someone updating UAE to emulate the Walker?

You can imagine anything you want!  Seriously, that would be pretty neat; I'm just feeling punchy today.
