keyboard faillure
« on: December 03, 2010, 05:14:41 PM »
Hello,
I have an Amiga 1200 with hard disk in...
After many years I try to restart it, but the workbench do not start. So in this forum you told me to boot the Amiga...and then execute a reset with alt Amiga...
But this step don't works, the keyboard seem to be out of order. Is there any thing I can do to check?
Can i bye an other Keyboard?

Thanks a lot

Reset is not made with Alt Amiga, it's  Ctrl - Left Amiga and Right Amiga at the same time.

But you need to tell us more about what is happening.

Do you have the kickstart screen?
Can you boot from any floppy?

About the keyboard, does the caps lock lit?

Anyway, if needed, Amigakit has brand new white 1200 keyboards, even with some non US/UK layout (i am very happy to buy a brand new french keyboard lately).

About the keyboard, does the caps lock lit?

Yes, press them at the same time.

I don't understand why you think this keyboard does not work.

Looks like a dead harddrive instead if you are going straight to the kickstart screen. Or maybe a slow hardrive that may boot indeed after a reset.

Open the computer to see how is the HD or try any floppy to test the amiga.

Hello
I think the keyboard if OFF because, when I boot for the first time with the DC Switch, the Amiga boot ok...the hard disk start turning (I can hear it).
Then after maybe 10 seconds, the screen with the (insert disk anumation) appears.
So at this point, I try the reset with ctrl+A+A but nothing occurs.
This evening I'll try again, but I'm affraid about keyboard status.

Thanks

Maybe some keys are not responding due to some oxydation on the contacts of the keyboard ribbon. This often happens with A600/A2000. Try to clean the edge of the ribbon with alcohol.

also, if the machine has been opened, the keyboard ribbon cable may just have fallen out. Happened to me when I installed my accelerator. Its easy to put back in though
