4000T and CSPPC problems... Help!!!
« on: October 17, 2007, 06:50:27 PM »
I have a 4000T that's equipped with a GVP 060 accelerator, Picasso IV and kickflash subway combo which up until now it has worked flawlessly for me with no problems.

So today I set about swapping the GVP and Cyberstorm over from my 4000D in the thinking the 4000T would offer much better cooling for the PPC.

The Problem is once the CSPPC is installed all I get is a blinking power light and the system seems to be constantly trying to reboot... Now once I remove all Zorro cards it boots fine! I have tried several different Zorro cards and the only one recognized and allows the system to boot is a cybervision 64.

What I find really confusing is all these cards boot in 4000T with any accelerator as long as it isn't the CSPPC while the same CSPPC works perfect in the 4000D with any of the cards mentioned! :crazy:

I'm just wondering if there is maybe something I have missed, perhaps a jumper or some other setting on the 4000T motherboard?
Any help really appreciated before I send both to France as I'm almost fresh out of ideas here   :-(

Sounds very much like a power issue to me.  I would try using a converted AT power supply or the one from the desktop if thats possible

@JJ

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try begin rule out power issues... Anyone know what type power supply the 4000T uses? The motherboard has written  p8 & p9 connectors. Are these same found on any standard AT supply? Thanks

Maybe it conflicts with the internal scsi from the A4000T?

hi,

Don't forget, you will need  copies of your Cybppc.library
and any other libs too...... in your other Amiga.

@JJ

Hmm not yet... I'm working on it at the moment... I have the machine completely stripped down now and  notice one of the jumpers is missing the internal connector bit from with inside it's sleeve. It's one of the jumpers that controls the internal, external clock frequencies so it's looking good at the moment!

I should know soon enough enough when I put everything back into place, I think I'll need grab a beer first!! :lol:

Ok I've now reassembled the 4000 and am very relieved to report it's now recognizing all the cards installed with CSPPC :-D

One small downside is 2 kickflash cards used during testing seem now both be dead, not a big problem as these are  easily available.
Thanks to everyone for the help :cheers:

I had to not fully insert the kickflash card to get it to work.
When fully inserted the connections on the kickflash are to short.
Just plug them fully in and pull them a bit back till you just see the top off the connectors from the kickflash.

@amiga4001

I'm used to moving the kickflash modules between systems and haven't experienced problems before.

Did this diagnostic screen appear on bootup?

I recently had a problem with my Kickflash not being recognised. A quick inspection showed that a surface mount resistor just above the zorro edge connector had become dislodged when inserting the card. A quick blast with my soldering iron got it working again.

Yes I believe it did show this same screen.
Did you try them in a naked amiga?
I mean a 4000 with a 030 and no other zorrocards?
Don't think it would be good to again remove the ppc.
I also had to bolt it down with metal screws to gain more reliability(hope I got that word good?).
