Debian on pegasos ? help...
« on: July 22, 2003, 03:04:27 PM »
I have some problems installing Debian on
pegasos, i've downloaded disc 1 & 2 of
Debian 3.0 R1 PPC(Current), downloaded the
kernel with radeon9000 support from
http://uk.geocities.com/david260179/
and started installer, best thing for me
would be install over tcp/ip, but when i
try configure the network, it says no
network card is found, even if the guide from
http://uk.geocities.com/david260179/ says
its possible...i've downloaded debian ppc iso's
but im not sure they are the correct ones ?
i cant start X because it doesnt find my
radeon9000, and starting it with fbdev, theres
a yellow filter over all my screen, everything is
yellow, and adsl/ppp config still cant find any network card, so i can't get online from linux

installing linux is fun each time :-D

Maybe someone else here can give some pointers ?
and an installer with network support for pegasos
built-in network port ?

I was tricky. With the little Linux experience I have  just gave my HDD to a friend, who gave it back with a minimal debian linux, enlightenment and MacOnLinux.

Since then I can manage everything :-) Even configured ADSL myself, downloaded KDE, etc, etc. :-)

To be honest I didn't even give it a try. (I had bad memories trying to install a potato alone for weeks, sweating: then in fact it turned out to be a broken distro... Nightmare for a beginner)

But that's me. I'm sure someone will help. (And there is the Beta2linux mailing list, if not :-))

Hi Cato and Warface, we have some good news for you:

Looks like the first non-MorphOS item added to the SuperBundle will be PegXLin.  We met David Bentham last year at WOA and really have appreciated his interest and his effort.  Sven Luther of Genesi will be working with David to get everything pulled together this week.  We could have it on the FTP by AmiWest, but if not certainly next week.  Included on the bootable CD are:

KDE 3.1.2(GUI)
Gnome 2.2(GUI)
XFree 4.3(X11)
Cups 1.1.19(Printing management)
MOL 0.9.69(Mac-on-Linux)
Bochs 2.0.2(Pc emulator)
Kernel 2.4.21-benh2
"Cool video, audio players"
CD Burning software including video-cd
Digital Camera support (capture, edit, save)
USB support
TV card Support (Bt 878 + C8xx)

All in all, it is a great package.

This of course is just a sign of things to come when talented people like David get their hands on a Pegasos.  This is what the SuperBundle is all about!   :-D

Sincerely,
Raquel and Bill
