Title: good AGA games anyone?
Post by: Speelgoedmannetje on November 06, 2002, 03:20:42 PM
I own an A500 and I recently bought a CD32 (and I am going to buy a A1200 soon) and I wonder how much good games there are for AGA. I got several CD's with my CD32 but those games aren't as good as me A500 games :-(  I am especially interested in platform or something light as that (Normally I like everything especially difficult games, but lately I do not have much time *sigh* for a good in-deep game)

One of the best AGA games would be the pinball simulator "Slam Tilt" made by the Swedish group Liquid Dezign.

It's fast, good looking and is IMHO better than all other pinball games I've ever tried on any platform including the Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions trilogy by Digital Illusions.

(edit)

You can get Slam Tilt here: http://www.back2roots.org/Games/HD-Games/S/ (http://www.back2roots.org/Games/HD-Games/S/)

The original Stardust is cool too, although it's ECS, I think.

Good CD32 games?

Well, it was overshadowed by Gloom and AB3D, but I really enjoyed Fears when it came out. If you squint it doesn't look too bad :-) Although I'm not sure how good it would be playing with a CD32 pad...

Good AGA games generally...

Alien Breed 3D (the first one) is just fantastic, much more playable than the sequel imho, although it really NEEDs my patch (on aminet: PatchAB3D) to make it worth playing.

AFAIK Chaos Engine 2 was available in an AGA enhanced version, and thats also fab.

T-Zer0 is brilliant, but totally mad :)

Wasted Dreams is also great (was that AGA only?)

Zool 2 AGA is underrated, imho. I always liked the Zool games.

I didn't know that patches for the first ab3d exist...
The exact name of your patch is pab3d1_1.lha   (in game/patch). I'm right now thinking to reinstall again this little gem of a game...

No, it has very good ECS graphics.

BTW: you forgot to mention Capital Punishment and Banshee, the latter available at Back 2 the Roots as an image of the cd32 version. Does anyone know how to run an image of a CD from hard disk? I don't have a cd burner.

Nononono.. I didn't "forget" Capital Punishment, I didn't mention it because its one of the most awful beat 'em ups i've ever played. Nice graphics, shame it doesn't feel like you are actually controlling the charactors...

Yep! The documentation explains why I wrote it :-). It wasn't written from studying the source-code from Aminet either, I studied a HUGE disassembly of the thing, not realising the AB3D II source also included the first game... (mind you, when I *did* look at the actual source, I found my disassembly easier to follow :-) ).

I remember waiting eagerly for Wing Commander AGA. People mocked me for it, as I expected it to be so good and then it never materialized...

The ECS version is still one of the absolutely best space-flight sims I've ever played. The graphics isn't close to today's standard, but the story... the soul of it, is unbeatable.

There is an AGA version of supper frog I think  I remember having it too. That is the best game ever IMHO.

What? No Dinner Frog? Anyway, Super Frog is really neat, my friends little brother plays it all the time, and thinks it's better than any PSX2 game.  :-D

Also, I don't remember if it's AGA or not, but Ruff & Tumble is a real gem! Fun, fun, fun!

Most of the games, like zool, Ruff 'n Tumble and the Chaos Engine I can perfectly play on me A500 and they look and play very good.
I already played Fears on the CD32, but the game was far too slow to be good playable. I also played the Chaos Engine both on A500 as well as on the CD32 and there is not very much difference. And I played Gloom on the CD32 wich plays well (though Wolfenstein has the "touch", anyway is Wolf3d not playable on the CD32? it is playable on a 286 so it must be possible to convert to an A500).
I'll try Tzero and Slam tilt and AB3D (I am still hoping Alien Breed 3D is as good or better than any ID shooter)
But there's got to be more on the A1200 (I'm hungry!) more huge classics I know it I feeeel it

Never had the privilege of playing any AGA games, but I don’t feel all that deprived for the lack of experience.

The best AGA game must be Super Stardust. Another good title is Alien Breed 3D 2 TKG. I love it and got so many effects that you dont really understand your sitting infront of a AGA game.

Breathless is another one.. AGA is cool, but old.. We need AAA 3D+ or something.. That would make me happy... for sure.. hehe

There are two games for the CD32 which I would recommend very strongly:
PGA Euro Tour
Jetstrike

Kay
