mordock: that is the worst picture I have ever seen.  Why post a shot of the BACK of a MONITOR?  Come on now, put it *in front* so we can see something.

Sorry, we have no intention of showing a product unless we are satisfied with it.

We have been running Workbench under ExecSG for well over a month now and are in the process of migrating 68K modules to PPC.

But you can only make a first impression once.

This doesn't mean we won't demo it before it's entirely ready to ship but it does mean that we want to see something that is at least as stable as OS 3.9.

wow comment 27 was in response to my comment 26, but I never read it.

I miss so much when I'm not reading every post religiously...sigh

anyway, great to hear that it is booting workbench, its all but done now.

yes, of course they cannot release it until its as stable as 3.9...I mean gosh, thats not exactly a big goal there, in terms of stability.

Now...this is not to say that I personally have become happy with all the delay, but nevertheless, I am happy that it appears the delaying will be over somewhere in the not too incredibly long future.

Sigh, hmmmm too bad they can't announce what they'll show at amiWest, bound to boost attendance, if they could announce in advance...I know, I know, it have to be ready now....such ashame.

AmigaOS4 for 68k?

I think all they are saying is they had OS4 running on an 68k machine. Ie, the Amiga4000 is the 68k machine.

We all know there are no 68k binaries so the poster obviously a bit wrong. Well, he wasnt, but his wording was.

Well since Hyperion have confirmed it, I guess it's ok to also say that it not only boots Workbench on PPC equiped Classics, but is also launching 68k apps.  They are now working on moving those 68k modules to PPC native.

But what are these modules? Are these small utilities, commodities, or libraries?

If these modules are tested in 68k and then moved to PPC once they are done then are these modules running under OS3.9?

Or, is all of OS4 in 68k first and then moved to PPC?

If the modules do run under OS3.9/ OS4 in 68k then can they be released as an OS3.9x/OS4 upgrade for classic users?

I agreed with this same suggestion months ago but people dismissed the notion that OS4 modules ever saw a 68k CPU.

I hope they remember this when they design the default 'look'.

More info please, 68k?

I've already written this to AW and ANN, but:

We've said in the past there is only one chance to make a first impression. We decided that we still want to invest a bit of work in the current version before we show this in public.

This doesn't invalidate earlier statements. OS 4 can boot to workbench, you can run programs from workbench, you can connect to the internet, even some old demos work.

However there are still some compatibility issues that we want to take care of before a public demonstration.

More news will be coming in the next few days.
Look out, I\'ve got a gun
