Title: Racer?
Post by: Cerpheus on October 21, 2002, 02:22:49 PM
Something Amiga needs is a cool racing game. Racer is a free project of a driving simulation with cool graphics, lots of cars and lots of tracks. There are already versions for Windows, Linux and Mac existing. Would it not be possible to port it to Amiga too? ;)

Yes we need a racing game. I have GT3 on my PS2 but would love to be able to not have to buy PS2 stuff and Amiga stuff instead. We need more simulations in general. Flightsims too.

:huh:On the other hand this wouldn't work for me, as I only have a crusty old A500+.

Hang on! Yes it would, I'll just download the Mac version. :-P

:-(  Racer may be free but it appears to be a real buggy piece of crap for Mac OS X.

I'll try it on OS 9 and report back if anyone cares. :-?  :-(

Hi,

Actually, the author of Racer has quite some Amiga history, see: http://www.marketgraph.nl/htmlsite/tv.html

Although it is a bit... Dutch.

They used Amiga's in the past for TV-Show graphics.

Cheers,
Ron

It's also a buggy piece of crap on windoze. And it doesn't seem to be really good, I guess it really is a WiP.

It's a little bit more mature on Linux, but still, for all the talk of the great physics on it, I thought the car handling really sucked.  (This spoken from someone who has driven a few high-power rear-wheel drive cars...  I can say that their models may be close in physics, but not in the reality of how a vehicle behaves.)  (Of course since my analog joysticks don't work right in Linux, I was playing with the keyboard, so that didn't help matters much)

I had nothing but problems with the Windows version, though my analog sticks worked.  :-P

In short, though, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was quite disappointed in this effort.  It's still got a lot of work to be done.

Not even the keyboard worked in OS X. Still havn't tested it in OS 9. Never mind.

Probs won't bother. :-D

Stunt Car Racer, yeah...
Okay, I've just seen Full Metal Challenge on TLC. The buggys they made and ran on that rollercoster course made me thing of that game.
I still think it could be updated and made really cool.

Yeah, you're not the only one who thought that...  ;-)
And I'd pay good money for a new Stunt Track Racer.  That was always one of my favorites!

It will never happen, the amiga chokes on anything graphicly more intence than the original Mario Brothers, untill the ppc amiga comes out and is in the markets with real marketing, it will never happen.

Here on my machine Racer works fine and the other good thing is that there would be no costs for licences necessary.
