« on: February 19, 2005, 11:58:36 PM »
Birmingham, Feb. 19 2005 - AHT Europe Ltd. will be exhibiting at CeBIT 2005 in Hannover, Germany, March 10-16.

CeBIT is the the world's leading event for information technology, telecommunications, software and services. While AHT Europe's main focus so far have been OEM customers only, the company is also about to address the consumer market directly by establishing their own brand for (high-end) settop-boxes. The ARIANA range of STBs will be officially introduced at CeBIT. AHT Europe will exhibit their products at booth C75 in hall 25.

Furthermore, AHT Europe is pleased to announce their future active support of the open-source operating system AROS. First developer boxes will be shipped to AROS programmers shortly, further support is planned. By addition of the linux-hosted version of AROS to the ARIANA settop-box, AHT Europe Ltd. want to provide their customers an additional slim operating system with an intuitive user-interface design for simple home-computer functionality.

About AHT Europe:

AHT Europe Ltd. is a british company formed in 2004 and based in Birmingham, with offices in the Netherlands and Germany. Current products include a PowerPC settop-box for digital video broadcasting, personal video-recording and video-on-demand.

Wow! This is an interesting development.

A quick google got me this.

Some information on their Set Top Box.

Not to mention the PPC Chipset they are using.

Hi
Several years ago,  in CeBit, a giant Taiwanese Beverage company announced STB based on Genesi board.
Unfortunately the project failed.

Will AHT STB follow the same fate?

Is there any participation by Amiga Inc, Genesi or other Amiga related companies on CeBit 2005?

Thx.

@asian1

We will have another Amiga-related company as a sub-exhibitor at our booth, but I don't want to anticipate their own press-release which I expect for today.

If Genesi, AI or some further companies from the Amiga market attend CeBIT, too, I don't know. But I don't think so.

Pardon my ignorance.  Does AROS run on PPC.

I didn`t look much into AROS, since it appeared to me only as an OS that by "accident" looked like AmigaOS, so I`m not quite up to date.
Is there an 68k (or even WOS) Emulator by now, or are you stuck with native software, meaning a softwarepool of next to nothing (or at least the very smallest of all amigish OS flavours) ?
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

There's UAE, pretty much all you need to run 68k software.

That and there several bounties that are open to provide more seemless UAE intergration into AROS.  Just for those not up on the current plans for AROS. :)

Plus a catweasel4 bounty.

To answer Magic's question, AROS doesn't run on PPC - yet ;-)

Oh, and Lemmink - AROS's core goal was to create the AmigaOS 3.1 APIs in open source, most of which is done!

So, what does this STB do? PVR I assume. What does AROS add? Guess I'll have to wait to see what the developers come up with.

PVR, DVB, VOD, ETC ;-) - AROS is just something for the mid- till long-term; adding some basic homecomputer-functionality as a linux-hosted bonus for our customers. Once - looong-term - AROS can provide the same functionality as Linux to our STB software, one could consider a native version, too, of course, for giving our customers an alternative OS choice. But that are dreams of the future for now, obviously.
