I used to stop by a shop that had a demo CDTV, to play Lemmings after school. I also remember Indiana Jones and Faith of Atlantis on it. This was long before I became an "amigan" myself :)

The "weird-ass faux VCR" could play both video and  games, so it can be compared to both DVD players and games consoles.

I can't really say people would want to watch a film in OCS graphics, thats what, 32 colour video? And no record function. I don't really understand why people who didn't use computers would have wanted one, over say a vcr and a nintendo or something.

I bet there's alot you don't understand.  You make it very clear in your posts, keep it up, it's entertaining.  The more useless crap you post, the more useless you appear.

How could they promote the CDTV?

"please buy this, we don't know what we made it for, but please buy it off us? We've got a shitload of them, they're all over the place, We have to wade through pointless wastes of engineering budget every time we want to use the coffee machine. They're like tribbles or something. Send help."
So very true. . .

Aww, did I hurt your feelings? Is the CDTV your friend?

Tell me, out of the box, what is the CDTV actually useful for? Not watching videos, because the video quality is terrible, not playing amiga games, because there is no floppy drive, and not playing those FMVB games from the early 90s because none of them are even remotley fun or interesting.

A foot stool?

The only good thing about the CDTV was when the stores were getting rid of them cheap, and you could assemble, with a bunch of addons, a Cool black computer with a CDROM drive. And even then a 500+cdrom was probably cheaper, and far more portable. I'd go as far as to say you'd be better of buying a used 1000 and a can of spray paint.

Just keep digging yourself in deeper.

Most people agree it wasn't a successful product, but it isn't nearly as useless as you make it out to be.

..and no, I don't really care either way for the CDTV aside from the fact that it was a "cool looking black computer."

So, i'm "digging [my]self in deeper" While the only thing you can suggest is to add a floppy drive? You have no defense. You can't even properly argue against my point other than "you're wrong, because i'm not telling you why you're wrong." You've lost. The CDTV is a peice of ****. Give up already. Nothing you say can possibly justify it's existence. Are you arguing just because you have to or something? Take those ***** blinkers off already.

LOL i remember this one.  We used to play it from a VHS tape at the BX on base to promote the Amiga computer.

Speaking of the promo VHS tapes, do you happen to have any copies of the Commodore 64c, 128, and Amiga fliers on display at the BX during the same time period?  I believe I have a bunch in storage, but no idea where or when I will have access to them.

Beautiful box tone, how did you manage to keep it in such new (like new) condition?

Wow, they managed to milk all them minutes out of a CDTV?

Could have been so much easier, "Hey, it's an A500 with a CDTV front screen and a CD drive. Buy me now! . . . Please?"
