How would you name a classic AMIGA?
« on: July 28, 2006, 01:01:05 PM »
Hi guys,
if there were a new AMIGA out there and it would be a typical AMIGA 1200 design how would you name this AMIGA? AMIGA 1500,1400,PUMA? Or maybe another name?

But why a clone. Something much more powerful than the original one isn´t really a clone.

Well a clone because it wouldn't be a real Amiga maybe? Commodore and/or Amiga don't make hardware anymore...

Not to sound rude but what is the point of this topic really?

I can´t say it now, maybe tommorow. But think about a new AMIGA featuring hmm, let us say maybe a Motorola 6860 with more than 60Mhz and a brand new custom chipset, maybe some new expansion slots/ports,too? What would you name this.

There is no point making faster Amiga (in terms of faster blitter or Paula with 16bit sound) because no software would take advantage of it. Amiga is frozen to 1994 specs.

Well, in my opinion :-)

beer driven fantasy conversation  is it ?
marvellous !

ok, I'll bite: I have pondered this very question myself,
sitting on the swing seat in the evening twilight with a can of Olde English in me belly, and another in the hand, watching the sun set, and the chavs chuck beer cans into me hedge (b@st@rds).

it would have had: a 68060, 24 bit colour, and 8 stereo mappable 16 bit channels off an Audio DSP. it would also have a slot for a 3d accelerator, and what not.

of course it is all moot, but theres nowt wrong with an alcohol fuelled fantasy, even if there's no alcohol involved!!

enjoy the moment.

its a bit like the age old question among single blokes:
'small and pointy, or large and roundy ones ?' when the nearest breast is as unreachable as if it were in Antarctica !!

good times!

So it basically a 1200 with some additional stuff? Is it AGA compatible? WHDLoad friendly? If so, I'd call it

"The Answer"  :)

or maybe the Amiga Riposte, only you can all the subject headers with "Riposte-rip-off!  etc."

HOw about you had a chat with Mr Braben, got Frontier First Encounters converted and called it "the 1200 Elite"?  :)

Well, I thought you meant close to an A1200 so, being a classic, you could call it an A1201. I expect you could even get a license from Amiga Inc and call it an Amiga A1201.

But...

With specs like 68k60, beefed up AGA, 'extras as standard' like USB, fast IDE and graphics then depending on the form factor you could call it an A1300 or an A5000.

All IMHO of course.....

A1300 sounds simple and good. How about A1300 "The Wolf". Wouldn´t it sound fantastic. Because an AMIGA is a lonely wolf. It´s os is more flexible but also simpler than any other os. In the hardware factor, too. Because no other todays computer would use a M6860 cpu. But you all are totaly right,it´s still fantasy. But more about the "fantasy" tomorrow. ;-)

yes there is no point,
but I would call it a2400, duh.....
they made the 500 then the 600 then the 1200 so the next mayor leap would be the a2400, I would be tempted to call it the a2600 for hacker related reasons.

I like 'Hombre'.  Of course under the assumption that it is a clone, and Amiga was full of first names, I might consider 'Dolly'.
