Strewth!  Poor Denis.  I hope he has somewhere to live.  It wasn't clear if his stuff was just stored there or if he was staying there too.

It's really horrible! :-(

Despite "things" should be not the core of our lives, I agree objects are linked to emotions, thoughts and experiences, so losing them is like loosing our memory.

Horrifying!
"Not making any hard and fast rules means that the moderators can use their good judgment in moderation, and we think the results speak for themselves." - Amiga.org, terms of service

"You, got to stem the evil tide, and keep it on the the inside" - Rogers Waters

"God was never on your side" - Lemmy

Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective"

I don't give a **** about his things; the tragedy here is coping with an obvious (violent) emotional breakdown on his father's part and the ripple effect that's going to have on his life and the lives of everyone else in his family.

Okay, that is a given, but I hope you do not mean to denigrate anyone who is sad for the loss of the collection.  Since he himself has dealt or is dealing with his family issues and obviously the post is about having lost a part of himself in his collection (which can be just as emotionally damaging though it is just "stuff,") I do not think it inappropriate to commiserate with him on that loss.

We can also commiserate with him on his familial loss and problems, as I am certain someone else here has similar experience, at least enough to relate.  Personally, I am lucky enough not to have such an experience in my nuclear family.

Not at all - I'm saying it in the spirit of "he can worry about his things" - I'm not, I'm more concerned about him, in the general sense of concern for a fellow human being.

My dad always told me, "Son, they're just things, things can be replaced."

Wow. Sad that he lost most of his collection, but damn, that's crazy not legally being able to do anything about his father but legally having to make sure he doesn't do anything bat **** crazy!
