I have a feeling that Franko once said he had washed his hands of this place though. I hope this is a false memory but I seem to recall it.

I'm not very active these days, but the colorful characters are what used to keep me coming to the forums. I wasn't around for whatever got Franko banned from Amiga.org, but I can tell you that Amigaworld.net has been far less interesting since Helgis was banned. (I'm speaking purely of the popcorn factor. Helgis appeared to be, by and large, an a**hole.) Every forum needs at least one willing punching bag.

FTFY

I know Franko had a following, and good for him.  While he had some useful posts in the beginning of his membership, the noise he injected into the signal here was overly obnoxious.  I suppose things inevitably change as people who offer substance begin to drift, if not be driven, away, and if Amiga.org should devolve from a mostly useful forum to a Franko free-for-all then so be it, but it would be a sad day IMNSHO.

If someone gets banned can they never come back? or it is not so often they do/can that. If they want to, they could just use a different username.
Title: Re: Amiga.org For Sale?
Post by: CritAnime on December 09, 2012, 12:22:03 AM
Franko was alright with you if you were alright with him. And the thing with him is that he knows how to push someone's buttons if they start messing around with him. Simple formula is if you don't want to engage with him then simply don't bother.

I remember the final couple of threads that resulted in the ban. Both Franco and the other party were banned. However one was allowed back even though I felt they were far worse in the little arguments.

Quoted for truth.

I liked Franko because he was one of the few people around here who were completely unwilling to compromise their stance on what is and isn't "Amiga" for the sake of diplomacy or "keeping the name out there" and who demonstrated a real passion for the platform, rather than just hanging around perpetually carping about how it's not fast enough to play YouTube on. We could use more people like that.

The guy spammed this board with nearly 6000 posts in one year. In the latter half of his onslaught he invaded every godsdamn conversation and turned it into an off-topic mudslinging contest. He got insulting the second you disagreed with him (and no, I'm not referring to his "scottish humour" bull**** - search around for some of the things he said about Wayne) and after he was banned he openly admitted to trolling.

If somebody ever deserved to be banned and never mentioned again, it's that guy.

Isn't that kinda like saying "a land-mine is alright if you're alright with it?" Despite the fact the channel's full of them and they're magnetic?

This place is better off without him.

There is a difference. A landmine you can't reason with, Franko you can. To an extent anyway ;)

Thank u so much. I used to watch it as a kid. I loved it when I was a kid, hehehe. I used to dream as a kid about a planet filled with ballloon creatures and plants and even houses hehe and I would go there and pop them just like the cartoon and I get all giddy heheheh.

Isn't that a general thing here, ie the "if it doesn't have a Paula chip on the motherboard it is not an Amiga" type attitude? Seems plenty of people wave that flag quite loudly here :)

Well technically he is right.  The only computers to bear the Amiga name had Paula chips.  (Except a handful of intel boxes and tablets licensed from the late and unlamented Amiga Inc)

It's not so much his exact position as that it was quite clearly something he believed in, whereas with a lot of other people it seems to just be an argument they take to use against the opposing "camp" but drop whenever it would conflict with another position they want to take. At the time Franko was around, a lot of people who generally fall in that camp were saying things like "well, I like the 68k as much as anybody, but at least CUSA is getting the Name out there" or "I know the C64x isn't what any of us want, but Barry's a smart match for our community anyway because he's a successful businessman with money." Hell, even I was trying to at least be diplomatic until I got a better feel for what kind of people they were. The mad Scotsman, however, was having none of it, wasn't going to compromise his positions for anything, and clearly relished defending them. Whatever else you think about the guy, I totally have to respect that.
