The Orange has been a flop to me: lack of support, hard to setup to your needs and overclocked as hell. If you run it at full speed it gets hot enough to burn your finger to the bone.
I cannot speak about the ODROID ones; but the infamous XU4 is well-know by its noisy fan (a big no-no in this kind of devices), my only hope are the C1/C2, specially the later, not being factory overclocked.

However the one thing I really really want on all these Raspberry Pi's and all the clones is RAM. Why the hell are we doing only 2GB on the best of them. Add $10-20 and double or quadruple the RAM.

The lack of RAM on a RPi is what causes swap and the I/O on the boards isn't what you'd call fantastic.

Seems that the video core the PIs build puts the limit of RAM in the actual 1GB. OTOH, 2GB counterparts (like ODroid models) are pretty efficients as the RAM use under ARM is far less than with bigger processors.

I would be extremely happy with a revision with a mere 2GB, really, really happy :-)

I have not ran into a situation with my Pi or any of the software or  games that I use where in I felt I needed any more than 1Gb or RAM.
That's why I've been trying for some time to turn one of these devices into a desktop machine (silent and small size) and believe me, they're still far from capable to run basic desktop gear. Open a browser, a mail client and a Office suite and you'll be stuck for minutes waiting for things to happen...:(

I must to go for a ODroid XU4 to get something like the above and it's not silent anymore.

Why can't a Linux be installed in our old Android phones?, I've some of them and all are far better than the Pi3

None of them seem easier than write an OS image to a SD card; but maybe it's worth to investigate, thanks for pointing this up!

Agreed, that's the case of the Orange PI, lack of support and poorly home-cooked distros. The fake hardware is the lesser problem when dealiing with an OPI.

So, has the ODroid also lack of support?, seems that it has a lot of distros available, none of them has bring video hardware acceleration?. If so, the XU4 it's severely crippled and can't be used as a desktop replacement for sure...:(
