Come on folks!! Let`s get everyone on this thing.
http://map.minimig.net
Any chance of making this thread sticky for a bit??
.
-
I got as far as placing my chip on the map, but then it wanted too much info so I gave up.
-
Yep, asking too much personal info for my taste too.
I got as far as placing my chip on the map, but then it wanted too much info so I gave up.
-
It seems like there should be more Amiga users just from Amiga.org! I added my 2 cents...
I just left some fields blank - it accepted my addition...
-
I'm still not on the amiga map... Put imagine a pin in the London area ;)
-
I got as far as placing my chip on the map, but then it wanted too much info so I gave up.
I lied on mine. Standard practice for trivial matters.
-
I'm confused, is this a map for minimig users or Amiga users? I mean it says minimig.net.
-
They never added me. :(
It shows AmiKit being in Eugene, OR, in the United States.
Is that the same AmiKit that posts on Amiga.org and Amigaworld.net? As their user profiles on both sites say they are in Europe.
Would be great to find another user in Eugene, but with me still not being added, and Amikit showing up on the wrong continent, I'm starting to doubt the validity/accuracy of this map.
-
there was already such map before, I think I'm on that one.
-
Hey, look at that, there's someone else in my town with an Amiga.
-
Too much personal info needed, else I'd do it. My neighbourhood is shite enough without having to worry about international Amiga thieves waiting for me to take a holiday ;-) lol
-
Top countries of signed up Amiga owners
List of countries with 5 or more users.

C'mon, USA, only 2 users away from the number one spot!

C'mon, USA, only 2 users away from the number one spot!
Spain 26 and España 5? heh.. it's the same country... that should be 31 for Spain...
Same for Italy/Italia... 22 total.
Cheers
-
Maybe Spain is where British expats live and España is where Spaniards live?
-
I have submitted my info. and now I cannot see the map. :)
-
I got as far as placing my chip on the map, but then it wanted too much info so I gave up.
To repeat something I wrote elsewhere about this:
Regarding personal information: For example in finland a website is mandated by law (http://www.finlex.fi/en/laki/kaannokset/1999/en19990523.pdf) to maintain a privacy policy document (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy) which will explain the contact information of the registry maintainer, the specifics about the actual information maintained, the purpose for maintaining the registry, and to who and under what circumstances can the information be disclosed.
I'm sure having such document around would alleviate some fears people have about disclosing their private information.
-
I generally don't have a problem providing personal info when there's a good reason, but they really don't seem to have one for requesting all that info. Phone number? Are they gonna give me a call to make sure I put my marker in the right spot on the map?
But anyway, they were nice enough to accept fake information.
-
just use the Long and Lat of the nearest big city to you
that's good enough. all the map is supposed to do is show a pattern
-
That's right, toots.
And use dots for the other info.
I is on da map, near enough to where I is ;)
-
Too much personal info needed, else I'd do it. My neighbourhood is shite enough without having to worry about international Amiga thieves waiting for me to take a holiday ;-) lol
Hi Save,
I added myself on the map, so you know where I live now. I say this because I live a few miles from you actually. He he.
For those who would want to steel my antique computers, I work from home and I know chai-t. Hatchaaaaa!
-
Nice, USA moves to the #1 rank.
Only up by 2 though!
-

Oh cool, I'll have to send you a PM. I did add myself and listed my Miggy's, but didn't disclose my mailing addy or phone number.
-
What's the point of this anyways?
-
I just added myself. For the moment, I am the only one in Alabama.
What Wayne is doing ? I know he lives few miles away from me.
I also register my MCC board as an Amiga :-).
Regards,
Frederic
-
I don't know, but it is cool!!! I'm on the map :D
-
geez whats the big bloody deal ? just put generic info people ! the important thing is putting the right city you live in for pete sake...put a street name a km away from you LOL
-
I guess I am not the only paranoid person. I put the largest town near me. Longview has about 75000 people.
-

thats the way to do it!..now everyone else do the same thing and lets get that map filled out :-)
-
Not sure if this is keeping anyone out, but the site doesn't seem to load correctly (at all?) in IE, I had to open Firefox to access it.
-
Some coughs but loads then ("museum" PC, IE7)
-
i'll NEVER understand why anyone uses IE
-
Ever heard of employees tools?

Amigakit is surely listed in the UK today (7/29/09). Every one I know is where they should be.
-
What's the reason for the map? I thought it was obvious! They're coming to take us away....
-
Well, It could be just a coincidence, but ever since "signing" up on the map (yes I did put legit e-mail) I am getting a ton more spam now, and now its all "address" personally. Stuff like OEM software and ink jet refills.
Like I said maybe just a coincedence.
Sad thing is the map puts me about 5-10 km from where I actually live, and there is no way to edit the info.
-
You can drag your little chip and drop it whereever you like. Mine is exactly where I put it. Maybe you only get once chance though.
edit: nope, looks like they let you log in and move it around.
-
So, how can I modify my personal info and change my address? I'd like to add/change some info but I can't find how...
thanks.
-
You'll need to use the "Log in to make changes" option on the site and have it send you a password reset.
edit: how about that, it lets you change your point description but it doesn't seem to let you move or delete your point.
-
I can't be bothered... don't want to bothered... found... robbed ... etc
I'm in the UK - ok ? System see sig....
Tom UK
-
Ever heard of employees tools?
I work at home
but I also use portable programs like Opera - there's lots of other portable programs that can run from your flash drive.
-

Think this as a security restriction .. Bill G won't be able to see the map, and thus he can't fire any missiles at our homes :)

working on it .. You will be able to change your point (but not as easy as when setting it in the first place), change public info and private fields (I will even let you wipe everything out if you wish once I have your point validated)
for now, only the Amiga systems can be changed (remove, undo remove, and add)

I haven't used any of your addresses yet, and as I have stated before, I will not spread any of the private information to anyone.
The e-mail address is needed when/if you want to change anything about your point - nothing else.
I might send you all (addressed individually) a mail once to tell you that you are able to change the info, and probably some reminder about to check/update your info once or twice a year.
email is easy to track to its source, so check your mail headers of the spam's you are blaming (or suspect) me for. Also, spam volume usually varies with weekdays, and time of day, because of the lot of kidnapped windos computers out there.
I get them too, but they are tossed away before they land at my mailbox (for my domain, I filter out about 500 spam messages each week (for only one valid address, all fake addresses are blocked before the mail is scanned).
-
Sad thing is the map puts me about 5-10 km from where I actually live, and there is no way to edit the info.
Redo the first step ("find yourself", http://map.minimig.net/find_pos.php) and follow the instructions about zooming in and dragging the marker, then e-mail me coordinates you wish to use. If you send the email from the address you used for signing up, I will be able to find you, otherwise, it will be a problem..

I'm confused, is this a map for minimig users or Amiga users? I mean it says minimig.net.
The initial purpose was to make it a map for minimig owners, but it's now for owners of all systems. To be able to use the map for MiniMig users, I've created a filter, which shows only MiniMig owners, SAM owners or resellers.

PM me what you think is wrong.. (I could have been too fast on the 'delete-finger')
-
I have submitted my info. and now I cannot see the map. :)
Explain.. because I can see the map..
It might have been that you entered/modified the coordinates to something that made the preview go bad (this could happen, but should not affect the real map with validated users). If this was the case, I have repaired your broken coordinates, and you are on the map..
If you entered a valid e-mail address you can request a password set/reset link, and after that you will be able to log in and preview your point on the map.
-
Spain 26 and España 5? heh.. it's the same country... that should be 31 for Spain...

Fixed (some time ago), had same problem with Deutchland / Germany (and even earlier US/USA/United States, UK/England/United Kingdom).
-
geez whats the big bloody deal ? just put generic info people ! the important thing is putting the right city you live in for pete sake...put a street name a km away from you LOL
There is a slight problem with putting the pin location at a too generic spot. Pins at the same location will overlap each other, so only the last one will be seen.
As for the address information, give me what information you want. I will not visit you or send you a snail-mail, but if you put in the correct street (or the street pointed out by the pin), I will trust you enough to accept the submission.
-
i am on

Geeee... Just three people on South America ??? Where is everybody ???

Right... I wasn't able to change the public information...
Please let us know when these changes are available. THANK YOU!
-
Why is this so complex? Should be able simply to enter city/state/country and nothing else. Seems to be more of a hassle than it's worth?
-
surprised so many swedes there
-
Can I throw all these suggestions in for people to chew on:
Perhaps expand on this idea to include such features to allow users to create, find, save and share; routes [events/shows], sightseeing [geotag photos/ panoramio], Amiga galleries [ie: Flickr/ link back to user_cp].
Maybe add website addresses or links to [amiga.org/ et al] user profiles, msn, icq, email etc.
Include the Google 'MORE' for Photos/Videos [youtube accounts], Wikipedia, Webcams.
User search tool.
Then your project could look really pretty:
http://www.panoramio.com/map/#lt=0.000000&ln=0.000000&z=16&k=2&a=1
and when Google has all your relevant information we can all interact using Google Wave, yay! ;-)

Hi,
How about one for A1 users?
Chris
-
I can see it now. I had to use something other than IE 8 to see it. I am not for sure if IE 7 and earlier had a problem.
-
Asking for way way too much information.
I've tried twice to add myself, and both time the "PITA" alarm goes off, and my privacy filter kicks in.
You should be asking for the minimum amount of information required for the purpose. Doesn't matter that you're not going to "use" this information, or send this to anyone else, or whatever. If the purpose doesn't require it, then you don't need it.
You should be asking for a handle/name, a location, an email address and password. That's it.

A little paranoid, aren't we? I don't think that being an Amiga fan and related info is something abusable, I would rather be worried about other places that require you to enter your name...

You must be excessively naive. Who is minimig.net? You don't know, anonymous registrar (below). Why do they need your name and email to locate you on a map? They don't, so why are they collecting that information - you don't know. How is the data being stored? Who has access to it? You don't know.
You might as well print out flyers with your name, address and email on them and toss them about town.

usually i'm not that paranoid but the info requested by that site, are really redoundant for the pourpose.
-
@ Boot_WB: :D
@ jorkany: I've never really understood what use is when you know somebody's name and address. I mean you could go around town writing down names you see on doorbells - what's the difference? Now if you know something about the people who live there, that's different. But I don't know how can anyone use the fact that you're an Amiga fan against you. I'd be happy if they put my name and address into some contextual advertising campaign list and sent me ads for new Amiga HW :)
Yes, you also fill in your email address, but I have one for exactly this type of thing so what...
Maybe I really am too naive...
-
I tried to add myself but the form sucks
-
I tried to add myself but the form sucks
I'll second that sentiment. Good concept, bad delivery.
-
I can't really see what's stopping the paranoid people from just making up the information they don't wish anyone else to know?
If there's more information required than you think is necessary, just type some random street name, phone number or whatever it is. Or am I missing something here?
-
I'm still not on the Google Amiga Map and it's not going to happen. Nothing to do with paranoia just common sense. Why the need for all the personal info?
-

I'm on the map. I also dislike the fact of giving away my email. But considering the scope of people possible to be put out there' I suppose it's not a big deal.
But if it wasn't about Amiga... never
-
I LOLd HARD when i saw this!! hahaha it's so rare to find anyone using an Amiga still. it's like ANCIENT. hahaha

me too
I got as far as placing my chip on the map, but then it wanted too much info so I gave up.
-
There is no Moon on this map of yours!
-
@ Boot_WB: :D
I've never really understood what use is when you know somebody's name and address.
Clearly you've never heard of Anonymous. With that amount of detail they could literally ruin your life.
-
I'm using a MorphOS based system and therefore do not qualify as an amigan (at least not in the strictest terms).
BTW - I hear a lot of derission on the idea that Amigas still might be used for every day computing. On my machine my main tasks are internet browsing, word processing, and e-mail.
An original Amiga could be set up to do all these tasks. In fact, since I use Goggle Docs for wordprocessing, an Amiga would not be to dissimilar to what I'm using now.
A little slower and with a smaller color palette, but overall quite similar.
That just occured to me recently and suddenly I find myself feeling much more supportive of the holdouts.
Hey Franko! You're right its still a valid platform.
-
I added me with the the basic personal info.
-
@Iggy
um, I doubt googledocs would run in any Amiga browser
-
GoogleDocs does work with OWB on Sam440 and comes in quite handy
-
I think I'm the only Tasmanian with an Amiga still, well a couple of them anyway!
-
I've added myself, my address is "I don't think so" Hillerød, Denmark. I'm semi paranoid :)
-
I have just add me one the Map ;)
-
Time for some words from the map owner...
It's been a while since I worked on the new admin interface for the map, but I finally got (took) some time to make the changes needed to make it useable for the 1200+ users that have signed up.
I will soon send a selected bunch of users on the map the address of the admin interface I have been working on, and these users are free to test the interface before I release it to everyone.
Instead of double posting images, you can visit the Amigaworld.net thread linked on the map page to see some snapshot images of the admin interface as it was about a year ago (pretty much unchanged since, just adding the missing systems page and removing some debug stuff).
Whats still missing from the admin pages (or actually the map) is the functions that allows messaging between logged in users.
If some other people than those I have selected for testing is interested in participating in the process (or need to change anything), please send me a PM, and I will send you the link to the admin interface.
/PeO

I added myself too. Had to try a couple times before it would take. There's still Amiga users finding out about this map. :)
Interesting the derisive fool has posted about 300 times and been a member of Amiga.org for years... this from someone who doesn't believe in Amiga.
-
Just added myself... Now celebrate me !

Done.

Forgot :-) Mostly now I just comment on Facebook Roxette Official and Per Gessle Official
You can find me there

Well it happens :-) I love Roxette and Im happy with my Amiga :-)

Why do we have so many "Amiga maps" sites, this is like the 3rd I've read about in the last month, maybe it's worth just having one and not spreading it so thinly?
-
Wow, why does it have to have SOO much personal info as in 'info' and the not the magazine "INFO"? Afraid I opted out!
-

I'm don't know anything about the other Amiga map sites so I cannot consider them but, for perspective, this thread was started three years ago.
-
Done, added.
EDIT: BTW SQL database error when using ' in amigas (for writing EIDE'99).
-
Map app not working in chrome, tried to add my location
-
The app crashes on me too; but my Amiga's are in the Witness Protection Program, so no need revealing their location!
-
The app crashes on me too; but my Amiga's are in the Witness Protection Program, so no need revealing their location!
If I can find them, can I have one :D ? I wonder if those things can be insured as "classics" or they are regarded as junk by insurance companies ?
-
I tried one of these maps last year or year before and it wanted too much info for my liking, so I didn't bother with it.
-
I use Amigamap (http://amigamap.com/user/Bamiga2002), and only that.
-
I agree with everyone that says it wants 'too much info'. There's no need to ask for my address or telephone number.
-
You don't have to enter any personal info. You can just click on any random spot in your city and enter "Anonymous" as your name, that way you've still contributed to the map.
-
And even if it did just improvise!
-
Come on folks!! Let`s get everyone on this thing.
http://map.minimig.net
Any chance of making this thread sticky for a bit??
.
Sadly, it seems Amiga maps are gone?
-
I'm on the MorphOS map but not the Amiga one as there are far too many people with psychiatric personality disorders in the Amiga community and I don't want hunting down. ;)

That is interesting but have to agree with the private info they wanted. I'd be fine with name & address but that's it. Found it on http://map.amiga-archive.net/.
-
This is definitely an interesting idea... I couldn't seem to get anywhere with it either but I'll take a closer look a bit later...
-
cant do it as server not responding :( hope they dont ask to many question.
-
So, is this different to http://amigamap.com/ ? Is data shared?
*confused*
-
Do they still want way too much personal information? That's what stopped me last time.

Thanks, this one works where as the minimig link doesn't load at all for me. (check your spam folder for the confirmation email)

@Leffman
Why make it easier for Agent Smith types to track down the ghosts in the system? Live off the grid is the safest way ;-)
-
Is it GDPR compliant?
-
sure. There will be generally an update soon but I am dealing with some personal issues so ... basic functionality is there so no harm ...
-
I'm not on the Google Amiga Map yet.

Down for the interwebs too!

hi, i tried to register, i never get my first confirmation email.
tried forgot password, and i never get a reply

Thought I registered a long time ago, now can't connect.
-
Via Wayback and grab from 2013 pops this message: Google has disabled use of the Maps API for this application. See the Terms of Service for more information: http://www.google.com/intl/en-US_US/help/terms_maps.html.
-
So we drop that Google Map thing and register to Amigamap.com (http://Amigamap.com)? Right?
-
bump.
-
Neither works for me. I can't get to the former, and the latter fails to send me an email message. So for me, both are equally useless.

Did you try the live ping?

No, I didn't try that. Thanks.
