Title: Original Minimig 1.1 systems - support and updates?
Post by: MegatronUK on March 15, 2024, 11:36:37 PM
Hi everyone,

I bought a Minimig 1.1 just after they came out, as well as the ARM controller to replace the PIC... but I can't ever remember setting it up or doing anything with it, it ended up at the back of a pile of projects and has sat there for the last 15/16 years.

Anyway, I came across it the other day while having a clear out, and since I have put all of my full sized systems (500 and a 1200 Tower) in storage, it would seem an obvious choice to leave out, being so compact.

I see the state of the art has moved on, but is there any support still out there for the original 1.0/1.1 boards? Ideally I'd like to acquire the latest firmware/cores as well as get the ARM controller running and possibly do the 2mb ram upgrade... I'm.sure there was a howto back in the day, but I can't find anything that references it.

Well I managed to get the ARM controller board flashed and working. It has taken a couple of days to track down ARM and FPGA files, since they seem to be scattered to the four corners of the wind.

I've catalogued all of the files I've found so far on my wiki: https://www.target-earth.net/wiki/doku.php?id=blog:amiga_minimig_index

With the plethora of later models and combinations of hardware it has been tricky to work out what works with what. It's even more difficult when almost none of the core or firmware releases come with changelog or readme files, or files are tagged with 'upload' dates and not the date of their release, so looking inside zip files is essential.

I *think*, therefore, the latest versions of the FPGA core and the ARM controller firmware I found are:

arm_asb230428.zip - https://www.minimig.ca/index.php/software/
minimig-rel4.zip - https://somuch.guru/minimig/original-minimig/

Anyway, I've found most of what I need. It's disappointing that the old forum on minimig.net is gone, as that seemed to be a source of a lot of information - including, IIRC, a guide on how to upgrade the memory.... which is what I am now looking for.

Certainly worth a try, thanks!
