The GP2X thread
« on: April 11, 2008, 02:12:34 PM »
Looking to find out how many GP2X users we have at amiga.org and any info regarding the authors of the Gp2x Amiga emulators currently in circulation.

Thought I'd start a thread. :)

I use one, and on the gp2x forums there are hundreds of people who seem to be in to the Amiga, odd they don't hang out here too.

There are 15,000 downloads of amiga emus for the GP2X so plenty of amiga fans are out there :)

I love my GP2X and UAE4All runs really well on it. Also really looking forward to Pandora :-)

I have a gp2x, actually I have two, a first edition from craigix and an f200 from play asia.

UAE4ALL is missing a couple of features that would really make it kick arse but it seems its not to be. Still decent speed and sound make it very usable.

UAE2X was abandoned when the dev jumped ship and joined the PSPUAE team.

I have one, use it nearly daily, it's good.

UAE4all is great, there's something really special about playing all your old Amiga favorites on a handheld.

I have one.

UAE4all is good but not excellent.
The machine itself and the community is very similar to the Amiga and its community

i have one. but if emus were slightly better on psp i'd use that for a better joypad, and the power cord is not in your hand. i think battery time is about the same... i did use it for ages at one point. of course i had to pay £20 to get a custom firmware kit for psp just to run emus.  i think the screen on gp2x is is better though. not so blurry? also i actually like umd movies. but alot of the ports like doom were lacking and blurry on psp perhaps i'll check for newer versions...

i am looking forward to pandora. i checked first to see where things were located it seems they have done a good job of locating ports to the right places. i won't have a problem with that. i am hoping real media will get some support. so i can just drag and drop films from movieflix.com. but it's not too much of a problem carrying around my jxd 301 just for real media movies. as long as i remember to put it in my pocket! just the one device would be slightly easier to remember i suppose.

the new eee pc is over £300 and is not worth the extra to me. yes a slightly higher screen res for web browsing but i think pandora too has advantages. i think emus and old skool gaming will be well supported. come on summer!

i will bless them that bless you. i will curse them that curse you. gods promise to his chosen people the jews.

How did you like it?

UAE on the GP2X isn't abandoned, Notaz recently put in an ASM 68k core making it about twice as fast.

Sounds like you have an old version CaptChaos.

UAE2X is abanondoned afaik. That was the one started by the Turkish guy Gn0stic.

Notaz' cyclone addition was done to UAE4ALL (Chui+Critical) in August last year, over 6 months ago and he has made it quite clear he wants nothing more to do with it. And although it improved speed a lot it hardly doubled it.

The new guy Noldor added some nice gui and control tweaks in December but has since vanished.

Full credit to any dev that touches the amiga emulators though even the mighty Squidge threw his hands up and gave up on his early e-uae port. I can't code myself but I can imagine what a cluster**** it must be.

I have been around the gp32/gp2x scene for a while craig and Amiga emulation has always been "the dream" for me. Hopefully the pandora can pull it off because it doesnt look like UAE4ALL will be progressing any more.

Ah yes you're right, I mixed them up, but Gn0stic has not abandoned his version, I know him and he is about to get a Pandora dev kit. He just does not make very regular releases apart from to his testers.

Is the F200 a worthwhile upgrade from the GP2X?
