Say hello to my finished Amiga500-Turbo Edition
« on: March 14, 2019, 08:58:22 PM »
Hi all. I do not know if this is the right sub-furum to post in, yet here it is.

It took me just over one year to finish my 500-Turbo project. Basically an Amiga500 Rev. 8a.1 modded to "500+" and loaded up with some nice goodies. Like 030 and so on. I love it.

Looking good. You do not see many A500 cases with the rectangle badge. Most of them are the A500+.

Thanks. Yeah. It is one of those, that commodore had to use 500+ machines for, when they ran out of "original" parts. Basically the same motherboard PCB and case. Yet they made badges that did not have plus printed on it, and crippeled 500-plus boards in order to sell plus machines configured as normal machines. That is why I have full ECS chipset, yet it was originally configured with kick 1.3 and 512k ram from the factory. Uhhh... And no battery and clock circutry. I redid the solderblobs and soldered in one logic chip and four memory chips, and then I got a plus configuration. Well... Without the clock circuit that is. Ńot going to do that, as I have no need for clock.

Thanks... I love my 500-Turbo edition. Regarding the cable, then I bought it through eBay, from a seller in Greece.

Hmmm....
Should I rename my Amiga, from Amiga500 to "Amiga-535-VHD"? (Amiga500 + 030 + 50mhz + VGA + Harddrive)  ;D

I actually do not know. As I have only tried them in Amiga500's. I have two of those machines, and they both have such a cable. It was cheaper than getting a refurbished drive. In DD mode, they I have not yet discovered any bugs. That said, I have not tried every Amiga game out there, only these 350 to 400 floppy disks that I have, are loading perfectly.

Another thing, is that the HD detection switch inside the drive, are still working. So I have to put a piece of tape on the HD holes on my floppy disks. So I guess they might work. Uhhh... And you need to be aware, that the seller have stated in the add, that they are not Escom compatible at all. It is because of that mod, that Escom did to 1200 boards.

Cool, I have just the 030 ECS games to test it  ;D

Well... It is nice to see all them ports. And it is absolutely wonderfull to see that so many ports are ready for Amiga. Yet I grew up in a time, in were my friends and I had both C64, Amiga and PC on our hands. We actually never saw anything else than Commodore machines and MS-Dos machines. That is anything clone and good brands as well. So I am into more than just Amiga. I love everything that we used in my childhood and teen's, from when I was 8 in 1984 to around 1996/97 when I was in my early 20's. All that nostalgia aside...

I have my small collection of AT's at hand, which is 286 to Pentium-166. So it is not to be a party pooper or anything. I just like to play those games on a machine with MS-Dos 3.3 or MS-Dos 6.22.  ;D  ;D (I like the original experience, as it is pure nostalgia)

My 286 is Dos 3.3 and the rest (486dx33, 486dx2-80, 5x86-133 and Pentium-166) have Dos 6.22 and I have both pure ISA, VLB/ISA and PCI/ISA machines. Then of course I have my Amiga's. Those are the ones that I actually like the best. Not that AT systems or C64 are bad in any way. It is all freaking awesomme.  ;D

Yes. But it does not work. I think it is because I have only tried on kickstart 1.2/1.3/2.0

Im not going to chisel it in stone, but i dont recal kicksart have anything to do with HD floppy disk prosessing.......  :P
Or at least it would require kick 2.x + :o

Ahhh... Then I do not know what would require it. Personally I do not have the need for more than 880k disks. So I can not really answer your question about HD drives and this adaptor. At least it is working 100% as intended with 880k.
