Well guys, many thanks for the suggestions...

I've tried out most of the ones you listed.

And the winner is......

JanoEditor!!!

@stefcp2, I owe you a beer! :-)

It seems to be the quickest to load, uses minimal RAM and has a great set of features, without being too overblown...

Highly recommended!

... now I can finally get down to giving my User-startup a good thrashing! :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

Janoeditor is nice but I get a lot of enforcer hits from it which gives me the willies and I don't like to use it anymore.

Just downloaded JanoEditor and have to say I am very impressed, nice and lightweight with the main features that you need, notably cut copy and paste.
Job done!

By far the best editor is TurboText 2 which you can download for free.

A really lightweight one is Redit.
Version has even more features but still runs on WB1.2, if needed.

I'm trying to find a replacement for the (next to useless!) "Ed" command that comes with WB3.1...

The best replacement for that would be the WB 3.1.4 C:Ed :)

As for useless... no it is not useless, it is tiny and powerful once you get to know how to use it.
