Quake 2 problem
« on: November 21, 2002, 09:00:03 PM »
I am having some weird problem on my A1200 when playing Quake 2  online.
The fact is when i connect to an online game with Quake 2 and i put it in
the software render, everything is fine.

But if i play Quake 2 online (quake2.xs4all.nl) in the hardware render
(wich runs a lot faster and looks a lot better ofcourse) The game hangs
within 30 seconds.

I tried every option, i even disabled all my hack's and patches but the problem
remains the same.

So i hope altough the game is still very new some ppl maybe have a few good ideas.
I have the official hyperion Q2 version.

my A1200 config is: Blizzard PPC with 040/25+603e 240Mhz ppc+Bvision,
                    128 MB RAM,ariadne II,zorro IV+mediator PCI ZIV
No pci cards inserted and mediator ZIV is not installed ATM.
Amiga OS 3.9 with genesis (OS 3.9 version) with bb1+2 installed.

Hope somebody can help me

What resolution do you try and run it in.
I can get it to run in 1024x768 quite well
but then it freezes on me not long after so i
mostly use 640x480 for going deathmatch online.

I run it on Grex+Voodoo+128mb 060/ppc240
A500+ A530 40mhz Action Replay
A1200 Blizzard 060/233 grex voodoo 3000
A1 G4/1ghz Radeon 9250

I'd recommend the Hyperion Support M-list on Yahoo! Groups. Hyperion programmers post there, and usually
answer rather quickly to questions like this.

www.groups.yahoo.com, sign in and search for 'Hyperion Support' (or something similar).
Think you have to sign up at Yahoo to see the archives/post
though.

Hi cap,

I tried to run Quake 2 in a variety of resolutions i used:  320*240*16 and 640*480*16  and 800*600*16
and also 384*512*16 (a custom res i made coz it fits exactly in the 603e ppc cache)

i did not try 1024*768*16 coz it is not playable with a bvision gfx card (800*600*16 is already way to heavy for the bvision)

and a note for slim jim: Thx for the tip man! i will go and try as soon as i get home back behind my miggy's (i also have a A4000 with CSPPC and voodoo3 :)

btw Q2 runs very very very smooth on the A4K  with full options :)
